Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

So how far is everyone else in the game (potential spoilers)
Put the spoiler mark there as a precaution, I mean, what a spoiler is mainly depends on the reader.

Basically, I'm pretty well into postgame now. Just trying to get all the best fusion weapons, but I'm at a point where most of the materials I'm missing, there's no real way to try to get them, it's just down to: "Okay, I need to find this randomly in a dungeon chest, then I need to go and find that in a random dungeon chest too, and randomly have a customer sell me that at some point."

I've only finished the first 20 floors of Crystal Nightmare though, so there's still a little left for me to accomplish there, then there's the boss rush, I tried that a few times and got some good items out of it, but I don't see it being possible to actually finish at all. I mean, a boss rush of all the bosses in the game would be hard enough, but a boss rush of much stronger versions of all the bosses in the game? HOW?

On a random note, I had about 6 million pix once, but figured there wasn't any use in stockpiling a bunch of money, and never came near that amount again, I just spend tons on healing items now basically. Opening the shop sometimes when the Adventurer's Guild is closed or I need to fill an order, and I hope the customer's sell me what I need, but they never do.

The Crystal Nightmare boss rush is quite easy to finish actually once you have good equipment and such. Dunno what you were using but in case you were not, I would advise bringing along rings to resist physical damage, magical damage, and to restore you SP. They make quite the difference.

Finished the last normal levels of Crystal Nightmare, so now it's just down to the boss rush. Last time I set my personal best of making it to the second Griff boss, but ran out of healing items. If only you could wear more than one ring at a time he wouldn't be so bad, but he has devastating magic and physical attacks and I can only wear a ring to reduce the damage of one.

Edit: Made it up to floor 52 the next try, but my luck was so bad that I didn't even get a single useful or valuable boss drop, and each run costs like 600k or something in healing items, so getting no boss drops makes the run a huge waste. I almost wouldn't want to save after it, but that adventurer isn't level 99 yet so the levels he got means the run wasn't a complete loss.

I tried out the medicine that boosts your defense, thinking it might help against Griff, but the duration of it is so short it's a waste of an inventory space to bring it. But there's no other use of Water Crystals at this point.

The adventurer you use has a great effect on how successfull the run will be. For me, Tielle is nearly ideal for a Boss Rush as you can pretty much stay away from the danger zones -- dodging attacks is a lot easier if you're nowhere near them. Caillou works well too, I hear.

There is also another tactic that you may not know about: if you do a magic attack just before an enemy attack hits, it'll simply pass through you. It takes a little bit of practice, but it's well worth it.

Just finished a Crystal Nightmare run from floor 1-30, so I guess I'm making some progress here. It was tense enough that I think I stopped breathing for the last 10 floors. I only had 4 melons left to go for the last 10 floors and my last useful ring broke on the last floor.

I think I only made it because I got lucky with floor effects on the last 3 or 4 floors, getting easy to deal with effects like the floor being slick and enemies having doubled defense. If I had even one terrible effect on those last few floors there's no way I could have made it. I also panicked a bit when the automapper was disabled on a floor and Will O'Wisps started spawning.

I still hate how so many of the items I'm missing are virtually impossible to find and can only be found by pure luck. Like a medicine I think I need 3 of, but through more than 2 full runs of Crystal Nightmare I've yet to find one.

Heh. I've done several dozen CN runs, and still haven't found any. Yeah, this sucks pretty hard :\

On the bright side, I've realized I can watch YouTube videos while grinding this game in window mode, so I can wind up grinding for hours and not even notice. Of course, it sucks to waste all that time, but it's unavoidable I guess when playing this as a completionist...

IMO Caillou is better than Tielle in Boss Rush, mostly because of a few key fights like 3x Sahagin or 2x darkness knights. There's a bit of a stutter on Griff and Arma, but both of them are pretty cheeseable if you know their patterns.

This randomness is driving me crazy, trying to get 4 Secret Mixes for fusions. There was a stretch where I was able to get 2 of them in 2 days, but none before that, and none in the hours of trying since.

Hmm, I think I may need an intervention for this game now, but I'll have to try imposing some ways for me to play it less and see if I can stick to them first.

I mean, I don't mind playing a lot of a game, but I realized I wasted two days off I had and accomplished nothing productive, just added like 16 hours or so to this game and a couple % on the encyclopedia. I should at least try to limit that to an hour or two a day, I mean, I was doing so well on productivity before.

Those were the days, back when there was still a bunch of new stuff to do and discover in the game. Now I think I've seen everything, all that's left is to do all the dungeons a million times over to get the items I'm looking for, and I'm not even trying for 100% anymore.

And 200,000 being somewhat challenging seems so far back now, on the days they close the Adventurer's Guild I usually make a million without even trying.

Finally beat the boss rush, the time before that I made it up to Arma, I died with healing items left over because I got hit by the rocket thing that did over 300 damage.

The last time, I ran out of healing items around the same boss fight, I suck at figuring out how many of each to bring, I still had like 6 SP recovery items but nothing left for HP. Made it to the last boss with a couple hundred HP, and took it down with about 40 HP left. I had to use the invincibility frames from a skill to dodge one attack and then quickly break it and move to dodge another, either one would have killed me.

Ultimately it wouldn't have mattered too much if I would have died, because I still only took back 3 items I actually need from the whole boss rush, but some of the other items I can sell off to pay for healing items I suppose.

The randomness of the drops can be hilarious sometimes, I've done the 49th floor of the boss rush (Eyebat King x 3), a ton of times and not seen one of the Necromonicon drops, but when I just did it, I got 3 of them. I only needed one, but this is good too. Of course I still need something even more random before I can use it in fusions.
DeathJohnson Jul 16, 2014 @ 2:59pm
Well, I'm now at the point where I can beat the final boss rush on a daily basis. Now I need to grind the hell out of it until I get all the drops, then I'll probably train and outfit some other adventurers and see if I can beat it with anyone else.

I have my doubts I'll be able to do that boss rush with any of the melee characters. except maybe Charme, and even that seems like a stretch.
Waypoint Jul 16, 2014 @ 8:31pm
I've done boss rush with all characters except Elan, because screw Elan. Most of them are totally reasonable, and melee characters tend to mop up character bosses more easily because they can do a heavy attack + special to knock them down instead of having to stand back and pepper them with weak ranged sprays that only connect twice at a time.
