Every custom has a certain budget, which starts out small (only 600pix for the girl, for example), but rises once your reputation[recettear.wikia.com] increases. The trick is to know how much each customer can spend, then pick your item accordingly.

I tend to keep the budgets page open when I play, and keep track of the hearts manually. That allows me to guesstimate the best sale I can get.

Note that the first heart increases the budget roughly 10x, while later hearts only increase it 10% or so. It is important to get that first heart as soon as possible. The wiki has information on how to best do that, but generally selling at 108%, buying at 70% will do.
well i will just use the heat from dishonored to know their budget........what's his face (Louie i think) found it for me

Yeah, if your merchant level is rising faster than customer reputation, you'll find yourself with inventory that they just can't handle. Just remember: Everything you buy at the market & merchant guild is at 70% by default, so you're automatically making 30% even if you don't raise the price at all. 34-38% profit + raising your customers' budgets is a way better payout than, say, 50% profit. You'll have plenty of time to wring em for every pix they've got when they start buying things currently on a price hike, or when someone's dumb enough to request something metal.
another question. what does (item)+# mean for example. Apple+3

That's a bonus system. Anything dropped by enemies can have a number added to it ranging from +1 to +4.
For food items, it raises the effectiveness by 20% for each point. So +4 means it's 80% better.
On weapons/armor, it raises the highest stat on the equipment by an additional point in a 1:1 ratio.
The important thing here is that they add together in fusion at the merchant guild. The bonuses on the combined items can add up to a maximum of +15, which can be a heck of a boost to an adventurer's stats.

Note that when fusing, the stuff with the highest bonuses are always used first, even if the total bonus goes beyond 15 (which, again, is where it's capped off). So you should plan ahead and put stuff on your store shelves if you don't want high-bonus items to be wasted in fusion. Items you have on your shelf can't be touched that way.

Just focus on cheap stuff at first and try to get a nearpin with your prices and raise their reputation. Then you can start focusing on more expensive stuff.
can anyone link me to a mod that allows me to view rep

I don't think there exist mods for this game, other than one minor graphical mod that someone on the CF forums was working on. However, you can track customer rep on your own spreadsheet or other note-taking means; rep level is the number of times a heart has shown up as a customer buys or sells something.

No. It only appears rarely, and for a brief moment when you complete a transaction -- you'll see it above their portrait; it's pretty noticeable.

Customers will automatically be able to afford anything they pick up themselves, even if it's not ordinarily within their budget.

They'll also be able to afford it at Pin price, which is usually a few % above 100%.
Now if only i could extirminate the young girl race. I DONT HAVE ANY HATS I HAVE TOLD YOU THAT 100 TIMES IF YOU WANT A HAT GO TO THE MARKET I NEED TO PAY MY BILLS AND HATS ARE RARE TO FIND T_T

You could just buy hats when you go out and sell them for more easily.
