2/10 I am sure big fans of this are gonna downvote this review, but I just can't pretend I enjoyed any of it. Just was not for me.
The hero having legs of glass and can't survive a 2 inch fall? A man who proves white boys can't jump, and not only slides on water BUT is actually pushed and thrown around when standing on it.
7 shotgun blasts barely killed a basic enemy soldier on EASY. But their rifles killed me in a short burst. Tiny little baby headcrabs not even bigger than a toe stopping a full grown man in his tracks unable to move?
Not to mention the 100's of bugs I got in 1 game. Loading screens would clip me into the floor so I couldn't move, elevators would randomly crush me in impossible ways. I walked into a wall and died. I even checked when I got back to that part no way I should have died.
I tried after hearing all the hype to find 1 thing to keep me wanting more. 1 thing to like. I did, the story. If that was a movie, I would definately pay to watch it. But the gameplay, bugs, and unbalanced enemies make it so damn impossible to enjoy.
I had to die like 10 times by walking forward or bunny hopping for no reason. Just somehow got crushed by thick air.
Had to completely go back because a bugged out enemy would keep me from continuing. I would youtube the part and notice something went wrong and have to go far back and hope it works right.
But the real bane in this game. The real issue I hate, are those big aliens that shoot Freeman seeking bugs. I got killed going for health a hallway away and around corners. wtf? I can understand turning, but they literally followed me a whole hallway away. They would go through a doorway and turn perfectly and hit me. So my choices for them, are shoot them in the open and take a ton of damage, or shoot behind cover and take a ton of damage.
I won't ever get why this is so beloved, friend said he hated Half Life but loved Half Life 2. But after this, I don't plan on playing it.
Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead will remain the only Valve games I love.
