Question about Black Mesa.

I've never played Half-Life, but since people want to know when HL3 comes out more than Brad Pitt wanted to know what was in the box, I've decided to give it a try.

I understand that there are three versions of Half-Life. There's Half-Life, the original. Half-Life Source, which I hear is pretty much the same thing. Finally, there's Black Mesa, which is supposed to be better in every way except for one reason. It isn't finished.

I understand it's been about a year since Black Mesa came out so my questions are. Why is it not finished? Will it be finished? Do I only need HL2 to get Black Mesa?

Every forum I look at people are very vague whenever they talk about this.

Oh, hehe, oops. Anyways the Xen levels and Deathmatch portion of Black Mesa have been post-poned until the second release. They are not going to announce a release date for the second release. Also, you don't even need Half-Life 2. All you need is Source SDK Base 2007, which can be found under the tools tab of your steam library.

It WILL have the complete story when the second release is. Right now it's everything from Black Mesa Inbound to Lambda Core.

The Black Mesa devs rarely talked about their mod when it was in development, that doesn't mean it's a "lost cause."

The mod was voted to be greenlit on steam a while ago. Valve and the Black Mesa Development Team are working to get the steam release with Deathmatch and Xen ready. The BM devs have an agreement with Valve, and they can't release anything about the second release.
