The story is fantastic and has strong ties to the real world. The feeling that what your doing actually matters for your story line (even if it is limited) makes it so great. Graphics are aesthetically pleasing. Sound work is great.
But the gameplay is a bit lacking. AI are a bit stoogey like they tend to be in stealth games so that you can actually do stealth, but they also have trouble putting up a fight against a real human who can figure out how to take advantage of their weaknesses and its not very hard to do it. Once you realize you can bunny hop everywhere with the dragon sword and win just about every fight you realize the gameplay isn't incredibly strong here. But doing that is fairly fun and enjoyable, but considering how difficult guns can be to use in terms of accuracy and damage it almost seems to easy and a design oversight. Theres enough variance in enemies to keep it fresh and with some enemies the sword trick isn't really going to work and its a better idea to just avoid them altogether and there are points where the sword trick will not work at all but these are generally short lived and not common.
GET THE SWORD, GET THE SWORD, AND OH RIGHT....GET THE ♥♥♥♥ING SWORD.
Even if the the base gameplay design in terms of shootouts and weapons are good to decent you have alot of choices to take ranging from no kills to straight stealth. You decide how to play the game and thats really rare and makes up for all the short comings.
Its a great game and stands out from the crowd. Its a bit of a shame that if you want to go with a straight guns route that its not as rewarding and more work than just bunny hopping around with the sword and face stabbing people.
Its still a great game though. Totally worth a playthrough.
