Deus Ex was released in 2000. It is one of the best PC games ever made! It is a cyberpunk themed Action RPG
, combined with first person shooter, stealth, and adventure elements.
The protagonist, JC Denton, is a sharp, intelligent and perceptive, but also cold, stolid, and a bit of loner. Every character in the game are detailed and some of them have their own story. The story of Deus Ex is filled with secret organisations, agendas, politics, conspiracies, etc. It is like "James Bond meets The X-Files."
Deus Ex borrowed elements from System Shock 2 and Thief and formed them in its own way. The game is perfect in mostly all the ways. What's so great about the levels are the secret areas, which you might find after ten years or more! In addition to that, you can even find bits and pieces of dialogues you never heard before. The level design is at its best, too. Deus Ex also features a skills system that lets you decide what to pick, ranging from Heavy Weapons to small arms.
Warren Spector came up with the idea of making Deus Ex in 1994 while he was working for Origin Systems. The original conception was entitled Troubleshooter. He thought the game would never finish due to the lack of money at Looking Glass, but in 1997, when John Romero and Ion Storm came along and said, “Make the game of your dreams. No limits.” It took him about two nanoseconds to say “Yes!”
The Singleplayer delivers action, adventure, RPG, hacking, immersive simulation, and stealth.
Deus Ex is known for its higher replay value, deep story, and challenging gameplay. Deus Ex has augmentations, which lets you gain power over certain things. The Speed Enhancement increases your running speed and lets you jump higher while the Run Silent decreases your footsteps noise. Every body part slot requires you to choose one augmentation out of two, except the torso part.
I replay the game every year. It has been so enjoyable ever since I bought the retail version many years ago. The game offers more than one choice to complete an objective. It is not like go from A to B. You can use maximum lethal weapons if you want to go the way of a killer or use non-lethal weapons if you want to be a pacifist. The world is detailed with many interesting characters, backstory, agendas, etc. There are always multiple solutions to one objective, so all these things make Deus Ex a unique game.
The soundtrack of the game is simply 'amazing'. It is unforgettable. Most of the game's soundtrack will get stuck in your mind forever!
The modding community is unique because of all the hard work people have been doing in making the game better. There have been many good SP and MP mods, and there is a good amount of custom creations by the community.
There is a huge amount of custom maps, as well as many new tools/utilities, and weapons.
The game deserves much more attention in Multiplayer and many players should try out the RPG, fun, augmentations, and other types of servers.
