Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Windows 8 64bit - No Screen size option
Updated to Windows 8, naturally first thing installed was Deus Ex. But I've got an issue - where the option to change the screen size is, the box is empty. I'm unable to adjust the screen size which is kinda annoying. Anyone else had this problem?

Just a little more infor in case it helps:
- Laptop is an ASUS U46SV, intel i5, GT 540M, 8Gb RAM
- Running Windows 8 Pro, 64bit
- I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, same thing happens

Same here. I updated to Windows 8 and I also don't have the option to fix the resolution size.

Thanks for the reply, glad it's not just me!

Are you able to change the resolution in the ini, or by typing "setres widthxheight" into the console?

Seriously, you are surprised that a game which pre-dates windows XP isn't running on your computer phone OS? I have heard about this issue on W8 before, it's not the games fault, you have to fiddle with the OS settings, my suggestion would be to look up similar issues for games of the same age.

Calm down, what is the point in comments like that? I understand it's an old game, and I never suspected that it was the game's fault. I was merely asking to find out if it was an incompatibility with Windows 8 or my setup.

Have you used kentie.net's fixed and modified deus_ex.exe? It has it's own configure menu in the launcher, where you can set resolutions, fov etc. There is also DX10 version which gives you nice graphical features like AA, AF... The only thing I've ever used in my Deus Ex: it doesn't change the games original look.

You'll find it http://kentie.net/article/dxguide/
Get the high resolution pack... New Vision 1.5. You have an option of installing a configure utility which might help you out. Oh the mod is free too.

I can't even load Deus Ex onto windows 8, it says "Unsupported Operating System". I can play other games just fine, no prob, but not Deus Ex
That's what you get for using Windows 8.
I do despise Windows 8, but it was my only option when buying a new gaming computer. But what I don't get is that the OP can at least play Deus Ex, whilst I can't install it. Has anyone else ran into this problem, or know the solution?
This game runs fine with Windows 8. I don't have any problems selecting any resolution. So this should be a specific problem of your rig. Ignore this haters in this thread, they don't know what they talking about.

I have an Dell 17R notebook with AMD HD 5470 graphic solution, maybe this is driver related or you have to install DirectX 9c. In Windows 8 as in Windows 7 this is not installed by default.

Thanks for your post. I played the game on this machine back when I was running Windows 7 and I didn't have any issues. But as your running an AMD GPU it may well be to do with my GPU being Nvidia, or as you say not having DirectX 9C. I'll check it out

the problem is not with Windows 8. Simply put, the default renderers that are include with the game don't work on modern machines (OpenGL works SOMETIMES) without problems. Download the Direct3D 10 renderer and the game will work, with full native resolution
Thanks dude. Makes sense :)

Yes, like he said. Kentie. As was stated before. Download it. We're not joking.

Also, you /can/ choose windows 7 for your computer. $139 on newegg. If you bought your OS preinstalled... I'm so, so sorry. You didn't actually get a MS OS. You got a vendor OS. They're not the same. Vendors package unremovable binaries to 'improve your user experience'. If you want to game, it's not the way to go. Of course, neither is Vista or W8. So sorry.
