Hey, i also have Windows 8 and this Problem is not only related to Deus EX. I have 30 old Games and all games have a horrible Performance under Windows 8. No One Lives Forever for example. They stutter really bad. I dont know if it is a problem from AMD or Windows 8, but i installed Vista for old Games, and Windows 8 for the rest ... Maybe you also should use dual boot. (i hope my english is good enough) ^^

Try upgrading or refreshing video drivers and/or re-install DirectX.

Game performance on my Windows 7 PC with AMD HDxxxx (don't remember which model) used to go to hell whenever Windows did one of it's updates. Upgrading or refreshing the video drivers would usually fix that for me.

For playing older games, dual booting shouldn't be necessary, assuming Windows 8 still includes compatibility mode available for running older software. This utility was new with Windows 7. It makes software think it's running under an older version of Windows or even running on DOS.

Right-click the game's .exe, click properties, go to compatibility tab and follow the link or however Windows 8 may get you there.

i have this issures since the release from windows 8 ;) i tested 5 drivers, reinstalled windows 8 4 times. all old dx 5/6/7 games stutters like hell. even compatibility mode does not help. so dualboot is the only working solution for me. my graphicscard: HD5870.

By the way, even Windows 2000, XP or Vista have this compatibility Modes for older programs. Windows7 was the 4th Windows with this feature Under Vista you can choose from Win95 up to XP SP3. But this does not help in many situations.

That's not a sollution. Some people needs windows 8, for example, app develop. I partially solved this issue. I'm using the software render, It works ok, but the texture detail sucks.
