Have to admit, that this came as somewhat of a suprise. Bought for next to nothing during a STEAM Midweek Madness offer, not expecting anything. And was unexpectedly gripped by a really facinating, linear FPS, with a really damn good story to tell. I can't remember the last time that I sat down and played a game from start to finish in the same day. I just did not want to put it down. You take the role of Jackie Estecado, A mob boss who bares more than a striking resemblence to Dishonoreds' Corvo Atano. Who is blessed / cursed by some sort of nasty from Hell and given powers not too dissimilar from that of Doctor Octopus in the Spiderman comics. Well by that I mean you get these tentacle thingies that grow out of you. Pick stuff up for you, hit stuff and eat the hearts of your fallen enemies (As you do).
The plot (as I said before) is gripping as heck. Spinning a yarn that's somewhere between Todd McFarlane's SPAWN and GOODFELLAS. An over the top dark comic book tale that fits its cell shaded graphics perfectly. The Darkness 2 is one neat little package, that will easy provide a few hours entertainment. And IT IS just a few hours too. I clocked in at the end in just under 7 hours. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Seems nice to be able to just have a good solid short game for a change. Rather than playing something that expects you to invest half of your natural life in (As seems to be the course these days). You know, the ones that are choc full of needless, coma inducing features that you can't be bothered to get involved with half the time.
And perhaps the best bit ****SPOILER**** There's an excellent plot thread running through the game, where you are locked in a looney bin. Where you meet the various characters from the game, who are also either locked up with you. Or are there as your custodians. Great thing is at the very end. You get to choose the context of the game you have just experienced. Whether you are indeed the bad ♥♥♥♥♥ possessed agent of demon spawn that the game makes you out to be, Or if you are just simply mad as bats. A fantastic conclusion to a fantstic game.
So bottom line is. If you see this on sale and dig your hokey comic action thrillers. Then go for it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. 9 / 10
