The Darkness II
Release Date:9 FEB 2012 Developer:Digital Extremes Editor:2K Games Price:4,49€
The story is great and the storytelling is even better. Is an absolutely phenomenal game in every way. It's really bloody and violent with fun gunfights. I love the controls and gameplay and the Darkness is cool. Also, some great additions like the challenge mode where you can use different characters, weapons and powers. The only nitpick I have is that its a bit short.
I enjoyed this game and recommend to those interested in a story driven first person shooter.

The Darkness II * 8/10
Why aren't they working on a sequel? This game's not perfect of course, but it deserves more attention. And a sequel.
INTRO. What is The Darkness II about?
Unfortunately the second chapter is the only available for pc as the first one is a console exclusive, but you need to know only few things: The Darkness is a comic, hence games are taken from there. Jackie Estacado, our protagonist got possessed by and entity called The Darkness which inhabited previous members of his family. Jackie's girlfriend, Jenny, got killed by mobsters from the Franchetti Family (which he used to work for) in front of him. Jackie annihilated the whole family. Now. Jackie has become the respected head of the Franchetti Family while suppressing the darkness' power. This is not going to last as Jacki is going to become again a target of a heavy assault by misterious forces and this sense of danger will awake again the Darkness. Without spoilers, there's so much to love about the game. The story first of all will see Jackie halfway still depressed for the loss his soulmate Jenny yet angry for the unknown forces assaulting his family. You will Love all the characters, Aunt Sarah, Vinnie, Johhny Powell, The Darkling, Tony Cannoli (HA! Tony Cannoli!), Dolfo. They are a pleasure to meet and talk to while you walk in the mansion. The story is being told by Jackie himself, sitting on a chair in the middle of dark, in the style of an "interview" with close shots, while he's entrusting you his thoughts, and narrating the events. The cruelty of the enemies and the main villain is equal only to Jackie while he's using the Darkness' powers and this is really fascinating, especially if you consider the struggled relationship between Jackie and The Darkness as they need each other. Jackie needs his power to get revenge and survive the most difficult situations, while the darkness needs a host that uses his powers until he gets consumed by it. And because of this Jackie wants to get rid of The Darkness at the same time. The struggle. You think it's enough? Then I shouldn't mention the identity crisis the game will make you feel during the asylum section. Definitely loved those moments.
GRAPHIC. Engine And Artistic aspects.
Considering the fact that the game is inspired by a comic, seems legit that it looks like a comic. But not in a dull and superficial way. Cel shading is very very light and all textures are detailde but if you get close to them you will notice pencil traits that gives the game a very pleasant and artistic look. Locations can be quite different, but mostly dark or lighted by lamps or street lamps. The engine might look a bit outdated, but not that much so please, don't let this stop you from considering this game.
SOUNDTRACK. Themes and Accompaniments.
Soundtrack is mostly made of movements that keep a dark atmosphere. There's no memorable themes but they work. There's one exception. The asylum sections. Music there is the essence.
GAMEPLAY. How does it work?
The Darkenss II is an FPS, and Gameplay can be real fun. Jackie can wield two light weapons at the same time or one heavy weapon. Jackie suffers from the presence of lights and to survives he needs to blow them up before going ahead. This gives that dark and ominous mood you see in movies when lights progressively turn off or blow up. Besides weapons Jackie has the Darkness' powers, which mostly consists in two demonic snakes you can use as whips and grab enemies to brutally execute them to gain ammo or health. "Dark essence" can be found hidden here and there and once you collect enough you can buy some abilities to improve your powers. Just fun. On a bright and bad note at the same time: Coop. You have a "Vendetta" mode to play with 3 friends in some coop missions. You won't play with Jackie but with 4 "thugs" that will run around to accomplish some missions parallel to the main story. These 4 characters do not have the Darkness but have some minor Dark abilities, which makes it a bit more difficult compared to Jackie's gameplay. That's good as they represent a better challenge.
LAST NOTES. What doesn't work?
The darkness powers really give you cruel and powerful abilities. Maybe too powerful. If you use them well and move with criteria you wil notice you are totally overpowered and almost unstoppable. And on a technical side I had to face a really annoying glitch where if situation gets too confused the screen locks on a blurry effect making it almost imposssible to play. Every time I had to edit a random Video effect and apply to make it disappear and to see it appear again in the next gunfight
TL;DR. Pros And Cons
PERFECT ATMOSPHERE. Almost every aspect of the game is on a very high level. Great Story, Marvelous and deep characters, Soundtrack that follows the action and situations, Cruent action conform to the character and context, perfect atmospheres.
GLITCH. There's a serious glitch where in confused situations the motion blur effect will remain activated and there's no way to disable it unless you pretend to edit a graphic parameter and apply. This would not happen if the annoying motion blur effect could be disabled by graphic properties.
THE DARKNESS. Its powers make you too powerful giving a minor challenge to the player on normal difficulty.
I played this game on this machine: Intel Core i7-4970 16Gb RAM DDR3 GeForce GTX 660 Windows 10 Professional x64
Sequel to Darkness I. i'm not sure about the original story but in here you're a mafia boss who has DEMON POWERS into you.
It feels a bit like [ Prototype ] but in first person. And of course just because it's a 2K Game it must have a mafia in it somewhere.
Amazing story, graphics (for the time) and gameplay feels smoothly enough, apart from some rare bugs where the context action button doesn't appear, in that case, press Esc > Reload Checkpoint. But it's not all the time, trust me.
The levels of difficulties are just right! They remember me the Payday 2 difficulty levels. Hitman is my favorite, but if you're not used to FPS games, go with Mobster or even Thug. Mobster is fine enough, tho.
One of the best singleplayer shooters i've played, period.
You can skip to the bottom of the review for the TL;DR
The Darkness 2 is one of my personal favourites in a long list of games on my steam account. It is everything you could possibly want from a first person shooter that has a noire feeling to it, with light horror elements and an interesting story that will keep you hooked.
The story, without spoiling anything, is a direct sequel for the first part, meaning eveything ties up and the timelines are logical. Basically: you are Jackie Estacado, a young mafia member with dark powers beyond control, that seeks vengeance. The plot gets better and makes more sense as you play through the game. You have choices, tough it's not a primary element of the game and the story and levels are rather linear, choices only representing the question "do you want one more cutscene?", most of the times.
The gameplay is where this game really excels at. You have the basic fps mechanics with a strong emphasis on the signature dual wield of Jackie, which can carry 3 weapons with him- a primary, a secondary and another secondary, with the option to dual the secondaries or carefully aim with them. Besides that, the power of the darkness system is truly a breath of fresh air for the genre. Jackie has, at all times, 2 demon arms besides him that, if controlled right, can do huge amounts of damage just on their own. Tactically combined with the generic fps mechanics, they can adapt to any situation and turn the tides of battle in a second with specific skills. They can slash, execute enemies in exchange for health, ammo, etc, grab objects from the enviroment to use them as either defense or gory offense. Your godly powers go away in the light tough, as the game offers dynamic light gameplay elements, requiring you to think strategically before encounters as you shoot lights out and cut down heads.
The game also has a skill tree system, featuring 4 different skill trees that all branch out from a primary ability and that can be leveled simultaneously. The primary skill adds a new mechanic, eating the hearts of enemies (dead ones, of course) and replinishing health by it and gaining more points towards the purchase of your next skill. Every skill tree has a speciality and any skill you get can drastically change the gameplay and your methods of brutally murdering bad guys, making the end game the most fun of all, as you got so many tools in your arsenal that every situation is your playground. The skills you get also scale with your own, as you learn to further multitask the demon arms while still keeping concentrated on the basic firefights and making the ultimate killing machine out of you. That's why even the hardest difficulty doesn't feel unfair in any way, but challenging and forcing you to sharpen those reflexes make use of everything you learn. It's a masterpiece to be quite honest with you.
Just so you can get the idea of how deep this game can be (story-wise), before the TL;DR, I'll leave you with my favourite monologue of Jackie Estacado: "Time slips away from you. And then, all of a sudden, it's like you're sitting in a theatre, watching a movie of your own life. You're a fu**ing movie star. And you're killing all the bad guys-tearing them limb from limb. And you feel good, you look good. F**k, you ARE good. And then you realize something: everyone else in the theatre? They're screaming, because they're watching a horror movie...and you're not the hero...you're the monster..."
TL;DR: A great atmospheric game, filled with gore and overall dark themes. One of the best story-driven first person shooters out there, featuring great, complex and innovative gameplay mechanics by using the power of the darkness. A solid 10/10 in my opinion, at least for the singleplayer.
i just dont know what to say about this game....it is so so SO BEATIFUL i mean ok the graphics might not be the best BUT they are pretty good and keep ur mind that it was released 2012 and not these last 2-3 years where games looks like reallity...BUT the whole thing about this game isnt the graphics....first of all i dont know if iv ever seen better plot in a game i mean i was like am i playing right now or im reading a book IT WAS THAT GOOD XD. also i finisded within 5 hours without get me bored just for 1 second i mean i was in completely intrested from the start to the finish...u can make crazy combinations with the power of darkness if u do the right upgrades and it will be pretty fun when u smash everyone....but pls keep in mind because for some reason iv seen a lot of coments complain that it wasnt scary....YES that isnt a horror game and by that i mean that dont expect jump scares or scary music or thing move around dores close out of nowhere....it is an action game ok? so if u wanna download it just to get scared u will be dissapointed for sure unless u are 5 years old....ALTHOUGH if u wanna play a great game with a lot of intense, plot twist, fun and JUST AMAZING then give ur money to that game and have fun mates!!!!
Awesome game, not as good as its predecessor because of its short game length ( finished it in +-5hrs ) A bit of an open ending suggest The Darkness III can be a thing, and im eagerly waiting for that day.

Wanted to play this game for a while, finally decided to buy it, and instantly found a game breaking bug where I couldn't progress any further no matter what I did. The 1st time you control the demon, ally, thing, in the air vent I was continously caught on different parts of the vent. At first I thought, "Okay this is annoying, but if I jump around a bit I can free myself and move on." Right near the end of the vent, I was met with an invisble wall that no matter how I moved/jumped I couldn't get past it. I reloaded the game twice, and was met with the same issues. Other than that its a fun game with solid shooting, and cool abilities to play with. Just a shame I can't get passed the 3rd level.
The Darkness II is a awesome game its a mix of horror and a mafia game you can also do co-op with friends hile playing the Vendetta campaign very fun and addictive, you can also make your character stronger by collecting essence from dead bodies to power up your abilities this Game is a must have!
I beat this game in 5 hours tried not to rush through it but it was still a lot of fun. The game startes off very fast throwing you right into the action explosions everywhere and all lot of blood splaterd all over the place. You then get your power of THE DARKNESS and start riping heads off of mobsters one by one, taking spines out of people's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s and shooting them in the face. your shown with some mind twisting questions like "who's this person", "where are we", "is this real or is it not". The ending how ever does not really tell you which one is the evil ending or the good ending you'll have to find that out yourself when you play it i guess. Finnaly it looks amazing its based on the original comic book series and it takes that art and puts it right into this game makes it feel like your reading the book when your actualy the one kicking♥♥♥♥♥
