XCOM Declassified Some secrets to hold onto for forever...
I heard from several reviewers and friends that this game was absolutely horrible and to an extent I agree with them. Declassified I found was much more interesting when I first read about it in a gaming magazine. It WAS supposed to be a pulp sci-fi suspense story played in First-Person, however several happenings in 2K forced its re-purposing into the 3rd Person shooter we have here.
The game does manage to hold onto the pulp 60's sci-fi style, unfortunately it quickly gets buried under all the shooting and with that becomes almost irrelevant. A sad thing, in my opinion. For I enjoyed the early previews of the original project, even IF it being an FPS. I did hope that the writers would have managed to create a good suspenseful story to cover the somewhat generic feel of the FPS, it was a bit naive to think that in retrospect. Since the only thing that runs the games industry these days is the AAA's and they only care about money and I could argue that the game is partly bad because of that.
However, to the game.
Sadly under performing and uninteresting, I did not hold much hope for it. Given what I've heard about it, but to finally see and play it.. Urgh. The game is a good example of a good concept ruined, it does manage to be a decent enough precursor to the XCOM series as a whole, but it does it so badly. It's almost not worth mentioning.
The games story managed to underwhelm me and I now understand why that certain mission ended rather abruptly, the "pop a cap in ye ♥♥♥
" part, to quote a man more articulate than me.
The game suffers from AI problems, namely the AI team-members being complete idiots. Unless you give them the order to take cover into a specified location, they might walk right to the enemy and get downed. Most of my crew died due to that fatal flaw in their brain development. Otherwise the fighting is O.K and that's pretty much it, I can't for the life of me tell you a good combat mission the game had.
I feel like my time has been wasted, there is no reason for the game to be this dull. It feels like the developers just up and quit halfway through after the project was re-organized.
I cannot say anything more, for my head is starting to ache from thinking about this.
XCOM Declassified gets a D.
For it fails to be interesting in every aspect, the story is dull and uneventful, the action is boring, nothing eventful happens for the entirety of its runtime. A sad example of spoiled possibilities.
