As a guy who was able to find some enjoyment in the call of duty story lines, this game wasn't much of a difference. The repetive "Pew Pew" gameplay, the upscaling enemies having no skill on the easiest difficulties and picking up a random gun on the field and instantly aquiring the knowledge on how to use said weapon(don't forget shooting down an alien spaceship with your Colt M1911!). Besides that, I really like the concept of the game, just the way they did it.
First off, the base, i don't know if it's just me, but i got lost so many times in the base, i would always be at the weapon range when i meant to go to research, the amount of people in the base was not preportionate the size, and the people on duty, just looked like they were "derping around".
When i started combat it felt like Cod+Mass effect gameplay, so it was pretty much 3 guys hiding behind a car taking potshots at aliens who were stupid enough to poke their heads around corners.
The troop system is interesting, with a 3 person sqaud going out leaving the 20 other guys back at base doing nothing because all the other missions are done. The only way you can get everyone to a good enough level is by sending everyone on a side mission.
The story is filled with "many" oppurtunities to get to know the game, but it's just a bunch of talking and Agent Carter doing weird hand motions while he talks. Also the plot twist about the suitcase makes no sense, and it doesn't give any explanation as to how agent Carter got it. Also how it's only concentrated on the US and we have no clue about the rest of the world(Could make for some great DLC). There's not much about Carter's past except for the random flashbacks that he get's.
The game is in no way similar to XCOM: Enemy Unknown at all with the style of the enemies, and the 1960 US styled. Of course this is on purpose to give a different view, but there needs to be more about how tense the cold war made everyone in the US besides that one cutscene at the military base.
Ah the DLC, the first DLC is just a pay-to-win thing where you get a cool gun at the beginning of the the game, the other 2 DLCs add some content which add some more to the story, but it doesn't really resolve the glaring story problems that already exist.
Overall, if u enjoy CoD and was able to like the story, and the Mass Effect Gameplay, then u will have a great time with this game
