AFK Hosts...
Am I the only one around here who gets frustrated seeing games where the host is AFK? I feel like its a cheap move just to get more mana/exp. Granted, there are a lot of other cheap things, like buying items because farming takes "too long" or even riding along with other high level characters on maps/challenges they can't honestly be any help with... but still, AFK Hosting seems like the ultimate laziness to me.

Come on now - you guys are complaining about people who let you level up your 0-100 for doing nothing but sometimes helping by repairing or upgrading - most of you seem not to be capable of doing those simple tasks. (And No: I dont AFK unless absolutely necessary for a wave or two). What is really rude is not the host who AFK but people who join, bring in 2-3 toons at a time and go AFK with them. Selfish & thoughtless of others who might also need levelling up, Thank God there is a Kick button. So the AFK host is giving you a gift and your kicking him in the mouth: Duh For joining in others' games; try to be a little more thoughtful and thankful - whether they are AFK or not.

The last two on here are from hosts that wouldn't even help newer players just kick them for not having great weopons like them. They really make it hard to find groups to play with, so most of the time i'll just play offline instead of with the elitists.
Softspokenman Sep 21, 2013 @ 8:38pm
no I do not kick for gear unless I think its hack and if a host is afk he cant see your gear

Upgrading/Repairing is no cost at all aside from spending the time to do it... so why not spend that time learning how to play the game from the ground up like my friend and I and earning all of your stats/gear the way it's meant to be earned? So yes, that is exactly why I am 'complaining', because people aren't playing properly. And I get that it is inevitable that people will misuse the system.

It's actually rather poetic, in a sad way. Sort of like a symbiotic relationship. High level host sets up their towers, low levels come in and make sure everything stays healthy. In return, both get XP and mana without really playing (aka enjoying) the game.

I feel that if a host is AFK for more than 10 minutes in a public game, then their game should send them back to the Tavern so there are no people scamming the system. Honestly, its like when I heard about WoW players actually paying other players to play their characters untill max leveled. you aren't playing and getting that personal experience and know-how, and then you wind up with a high level character and not really knowing how to play the game with what you have...

malone1423 - I have never kicked for crappy weapons or armor only crappy players (Those who come into a map and hide, loot and die, run into mob and die first second of wave, or sit constantly on crystal waiting to get hit and the crystal with you. I also kick for those who double or triple dip without asking first, do that in your own hosted game. I also have about the crappiest weapons going - I have not found any really good ones yet. I have also spent the last 1000 hours in this game doing very little else other then helping lowbies and newbies level up and get achievements. That has proven to be of little value because no matter how much help you give all anyone wants is for you do to TD campaign NM and Tinkerers Lab NM and of course Crystalline Dimension NM - even though thery are only level 74-80. So dont talk nonsense about me not helping others. And I am not scamming the system - I did the grind already - so happy grinding everyone I will not be helping any more newbies/lowbies.

I've hosted a few AFK TD NMHCPS' before. Why? Just to help out. Not everyone has TD so me hosting helps a little bit. I don't need the mana or XP. I do it just to help others bump their toons up a little bit and I do it when I know I'll be in and out with kids, laundry, dinner, etc.

I understand your points, but your complaining about people not playing the game the way you feel it should be played.

@TheCurmudgeons
YES. Everytime I host an Akatiti run, I am asked to build TD, Tink's, or CD without fail.

grinding endlessly teaches nothing
without a helping hand this game becomes nothing but frustration and disappointment to most that is why their are so many hacks

I never had a helping hand, and I never needed one. And I have seen too many "high level" people who obviously didnt know what they were doing when it comes to tower setup.

I never "suffered", I chose to not have "help". I wanted to start a character and work my way up on my own or with my friend. I dont mind people doing co op if they are all fairly close in their levels/gear. What I dont like is level 80+ hosting NMHC survival maps just to level people up to 74 or whatever, while they go afk and have others manage the fight for them. This is a CO-OP game, which means actually playing together.

Imo, all points are valid. Like Galiant, I played the game from the ground up and never found it to be a grind. I derived enjoyment from playing some crazy, desperate, win-or-lose-by-the-skin-of-your-teeth matches with people doing the same. It was fun to progress at a natural pace and finally get that awesome piece of gear that gives your brain a little squirt of dopamine. I can totally agree with his view. However, if someone wants to power level all the way to 74 and not actually enjoy the game at the pace i enjoyed, I'm not going to tell them they're wrong. To each their own, play it however you want to get satisfaction from it.

The only advice I would give is for either type of player to seek out a steam group or have friends that play the same way they do. Although its really more for people like Galiant or I since power levellers have a pretty broad selection most of the time. Even more so since the DD heyday has long since passed.
