Best pure DPS class?
What's the best pure DPS class these days (and why)?

Close combat it's the barb, no contest there, flat out deals the most damage. Ranged would be Jester/EV due to their ability to hold two weapons, giving them higher stats. The only bosses that really require ranged are Mega Cupid and possibly Kraken, keeps you out of his knock back range. It really is a personal prefernce in the end, but for me, Barb crushs all other classes for DPS.

Thanks for the reply! Does the Barbarian ever get faster at high levels? Mine's pretty slow right now, even with 100 points in movespeed, and it's pretty annoying ahaha.

That's what Tornado Stance is for, otherwise nope, slow as mud. That's the real advantage of the Jester, fast as can be, where the EV is also pretty slow, but can fly with the right costume.

Ah, ok. What about the Monk? Is it any good for DPS?

It's a great sidekick for a DPS, the Hero Boost adds a lot of damage, mixed with a Cat, it's downright brutal. So I suppose it could be a pretty decent solo DPS, it's really personal prefernce, some classes may be more fun to play than others.

If you want a standard faster barb use the Amazon skin, she gets 25% move speed but sacrificies health

Barb by a far. (but squire, monk, and jester are also good)

Depends what you call 'best dps'. If you had said 'most dps' it would be easier to rank.
HP scaling and abilities come into play as well.

by himself, the Barb has the most dps, and can do the biggest single-hits by a mile (handy for 'overhitting' on bosses). Drawback: zero ranged capacity, like the squire.
In terms of increasing the teams overall dps the most: a heroboosting monk. The boost is not permanent, but for cutting down a boss it makes a huge difference.

Jester does respectable dps with the correct weaponchoice(s) and has very nice health levels and mobility.
Apprentice can do comparable dps, but is crippled by low health and bad mobility - the "dead heroes..." rules apply here."
Huntress/ranger is also decent dps. Huntress is quite frail, so i recommend ranger for the extra health, despite the runspeed penalty. Again "dead heroes...".

Squire/countess, well yes, if you dont have a barb and want to go melee. There is just no real incentive to go melee if you are not bringing the barb or a melee boostermonk. Not sure where to rank its dps as it seemed so pointless to use given the other options.

EV: way worse dps than Huntress and Jester, while having less health and mobility than the jester. Really not a acceptable DPS choice in NM bossfights unless you are being carried or/and already greatly overgear the encounter. Builder yes, dps no.
Its so Badly balanced, that it is almost as if the guy in charge thought it could fire both weapons at once...

to elaborate on that last snark at the ev guy... i am of course hinting at the mechanics of WoW, where dualwielding used to give you 100% for the mainhand and about 50% for the 'offhand'.
i.e. a total of 150% - which would have put the EV close to being on par with hunter/ranger.

on the EV its the proton beam blast is what makes it an ok

thats where we might disagree.
While you are sucking up mana for that that thing to fire you are doing 0 dps or you will fire it prematurely. In my opinion the effort it not worth the reward.
Sure it may seem great in the tavern where you dont have to deal with that mechanic, but in practice you have to run about collecting dropped mana + you have to time it so that the beam is ready for the boss but wont expire before you get to unload into the target.

Maybe if you have someone feeding you mana, but that is mana not spent on keeping a monk boost going.
I am not convinced.

Lets even assume it is worth using, it still has to compensate for the inherently worse attackscaling of the EV, compared to hunters/ranger who both get piercing shot ability for added dps and compared to jester that also has better damage scaling and the same weapon options.
