Scaling is a little bit harsh (2 nightmare orges for 1 vs 15+ for 3) so I would guess many choose to play solo.

dd is a great game up to its hardest level nightmare and then it runs into several flaws that just about kills it for most in the end

the game has different endings for different people. if your looking for a fun game with challenging tower defense builds then your set but after you hit each map on hard or move to insane you gotta pick. do i go for achievments or do i press into endgame nightmare. most people love the game till about early nightmare cause it turns into alot of farming. but if you choose to go after achievments your going to see alot of awsome things in the game and basicly be very high lvl in the process. end game is a ton of farming alot of that is solo you make a few friends but even they get burnt out after a while.

DD all around is an exceptional game. As was mentioned before, nightmare is a pain in the butt to get into. You'd figure it'd be designed with grouping in mind, but nope, they just throw more enemies at you, making it harder to group than to solo Nightmare. I've always scratched my head at that.

Eventually I got help from a friend who dumped a bunch of good myths on my head and suddenly I was able to do Nightmare. Eventually carved my way to transcendant gear.

All around I've had a very good time with it. I'd highly suggest it, even if the player base is low. By my experience many of them are quite friendly and willing to help.
