Game don't launch
Alright, i can't play dungeon defenders because a thing i don't know how to fix. Alright, let's go:

On my other computer, dungeon defenders worked fine, without any errors, and now, i bought this PC last year. I played Dungeon Defenders on first week on my new computed, if is better than the old. Next day, i tryied to play again, butt something strange happens. When i click "start game" on steam hub, appears: "trying to run dungeon defenders" or something same, but disappears some seconds later, and the game don't starts. I call my brother and he tried to re-install the game, verify the compatibillity, but was the same thing, and i can't play.

I decided to find help, but i don't found it on net. So, i gived up on the game, i has bought it.

Now, i decided to ask help here, for see if someone knows what happening and how to fix it.

try running it with virus/firewall off. turn off Hamachi too if you use that.
This isn't the problem. It runs with the firewall on and anti-virus on in the other day.

PS: If need more information, disappears much quickly, i can't even read the "Starting Dungeon Defenders". And no error message about it. My brother tried even verify the cache, verify the compatibillity, and re-install the game. Nothing works, i tried even run on the "safe" mode, but nothing happens at all.

PSS: Please if someone knows what's happening, help me.

PSSS: I use windows 8, but runs one day, in the next don't run anymore.

PSSSS: I don't use hamachi.

PSSSSS: I put much "PS"?

try running the game as an administrator

also the official forums also suggest doing whats described below although i dont think that worked for anyone on the forums.

File Re-Name:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dungeon defenders\Binaries\Win32

Rename DungeonDefenders.exe to DungeonDefenders.old

Then rename DunDefGame.exe to DungeonDefenders.exe

also try changing the resolution of the game, sometimes the game starts at a resolution of 0x0 which makes it fail

Here don't appears "DungeonDefenders.exe" or "DunDefGame.exe", only "DungeonDefenders" and "DunDefGame". What i do?

those are the ones the .exe is a file extension
So i should rename "DungeonDefenders" to "DunDefGame" and "DunDefGame" to "DungeonDefenders"?

rename DungeonDefenders to DungeonDefenders.old
and rename DunDefGame to DungeonDefenders

low chance that this will work imo

I too have this same problem though mine is under linux (ubuntu 12.04 LTS) 64bit. It used to work just fine and then one day steam updated itself and the game stopped working. So I investigated a bit under linux and saw that it had a problem of not being able to find the libSDL2.2 library anymore (which was strange cause it looked to be in the exact same location as before). So anyway I "copied" the file to another location that the game would look for it in and got past that issue. Then I finally got to the state this original poster mentioned where when I start it from within steam it does not startup.

The work around I did for that to make it work is to turn on steam as usual (the game has to have steam running for it to work for some reason) and then drop down to the command line and go into the $HOME/Steam/SteamApps/common/Dungeon Defenders folder and to run ./DungeonDefenders from there which allows the game to startup just fine and lets steam know it is running and even update steam information with hours played and such as well.

Not sure how much of this helps anyone else but I really couldn't be bothered to completely wipe out steam and the game and everything else to do a full reinstall and see if things would work out after that so this is the way I have to run it now but sure would be nice if steam could fix it up such that it will run again.

The content.log file shows a slightly different behavior when run from inside of steam verses run from command line. It shoulds a "Fully Installed,App Running," followed by a "Fully Installed" line when run from inside of steam. But when run from the command line, it shows both of those lines and then shows them both again roughly 3 minutes later. That is the only difference I could see more or less.

Is this the "second part" that you needed clarification on? Assuming it is, I'll try and explain it differently.

1. You have to have the steam client running as normally. It fails to work from the native launcher without steam for some reason.
2. Hitting ctrl-alt-t will open up a command line terminal allowing you to execute the following commands

cd $HOME/Steam/SteamApps/common/Dungeon\ Defenders
./DungeonDefenders
Please help me i'm playing on MACBOOK nad when i start it up right after the intro the screen turns black please help me
I have a friend who is suffering the same problem and there seems nothing will fix it :(

There are a few more things that you can try, but they are generally not recommended unless all the usual stuff has been tried first.
Both require you to exit steam completely. Exit. It must not be running anymore, so print this if you have to.

Resetting the steam registryblob - that can get stuck in a bad state, but it is rare.
Fortunately it is safe to do.
Go to your steam folder.
Locate the file called "clientregistry.blob" and delete it.
Your are done and can start steam. It will download and recreate a working blob for you.

Clear the local steam userdata for DD. Again, just to be sure, exit steam first.
Howto: in your steam folder, enter the folder called userdata. In there, do a search for 65800 (the store id of DD).
That should yield a folder called 65800.
Delete the files in there (remotecache.vdf) and in the subfolder called remote.
You are done and can start steam.
