Help for a complete newb
Since I didn't see a general help thread and the only relevant search result was geared towards nightmare difficulty multiplayer, I thought I'd ask:

Are there any good guides or threads for complete beginners (either in these forums or elsewhere)?

(Bearing in mind that I haven't played the game yet, will likely be playing solo 99% of the time and intend to complete it all the way through.)

Could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Wow, that was fast. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the help. It sucks that I'm away until the end of the week, so I can't start playing yet. Can't wait!

Alright, I've made some progress and I have another question:

Where do you farm for entry-level mythical gear?

I would like to play the game without relying on player shops or begging for free stuff. Most guides and videos I've found via googling suggest farming the first wave of Endless Spires, but those suggestions are basically void, since the first wave now includes two extra Sharkens, making it impossible to beat with just plain untwinked Godly-tier gear.

Could anyone provide a helpful tip?

Farm Lab Assault with 3 afks. Literally, just farm labs, and in few days, you should have 2k stats on most of your characters.

While the suggestion no doubt works for endgame, I'm afraid you didn't really read my post.

I was asking for entry-level mythical gear - none of my characters have anything higher than godly-quality items, none of them are higher than lvl 72, everything I have is found by myself (no player shops, no free items from others, etc). That's how I like to play.

It seems to me that the game has a huge difficulty spike at this point, because I can't beat Nightmare levels with the gear I have and the gear from Insane is sub-par. I thought maybe there's an obvious progression that I'm missing, because right now I'm doing Insane survival levels to get better pets, occasionally getting maybe 1-2 pieces that offer a slight upgrade to current items. I was just hoping there's a better way.

I did read and I understand but you don't need good armor to run Lab on Insane HC. You only need a good BF Drill, which nowadays isn't hard to get since there is almost always someone hosting Volcanic E in pub games. Level up one char so he can use myth items and that will make running lab much easier. There is a lot of leveling up lobbies, too.

nothing beats getting your own gear by your self :3

for beating nm (normal campagian) i am sure just some random summoner+monk+EV combo can win it <_< I assume your stats at ~500 by now, no? perhaps you just need the correct build :) , Let your dps hero use an attacking pet as they deal more dmg in nm, or even use a monk + genie to boost towers :P that will secure your win most of the time

which maps are you farming atm? ps: just to make sure u are not farming pure strategy since all stuff there are garbage, adding mixmode can make drops a bit better. and i do remember seeing some mythicals drop on wave 18 one day on magus quartor :3

Am sure you mean tavern defense survival by farming pets ? since it is the best pet for builders (kobold) ... chickens from tinker lab survival are a bit harder to farm

for weapons do akatiti jungle couple of times that would push you up a little bit.

First off, thanks for the helpful replies, guys. It's really appreciated.

The problem is that I prefer to play solo and I want to get through the main game before moving on to any DLC maps. When I do get to the point where I can start playing those DLC maps, I'll definitely keep your suggestion in mind. Thanks!

I think you're VASTLY overestimating the power of untwinked characters :)

All my builders have stats around 70-250, with the highest stat (tower damage) usually around 300-350. My DPS character with my best equipment has hero stats around 200/350/100/90 and resists of 60/59/10/43 in Nightmare mode. He's still using the weapon you get from killing the dragon in The Summit map on Insane, because nothing else I've found comes even close to that.

I don't bother with that mode, but mostly because the waves are so ridiculously huge. Even on normal difficulty, there are already over 1000 enemies per wave even before wave 10, so it takes forever to kill everything.

Did not know that, will keep it in mind. Thanks!

Like I said before, I'm avoiding any DLC maps for now. I meant the pets you get as rewards for completing survival wave 15 on insane.

Like I said in the above point, I'm not actually "farming", rather trying to beat the insane survival maps for the first time :)

I figured I'll eventually need to use most of the hero classes, so I started leveling them in Hardcore Insane Glitterhelm Caverns Survival after I had beaten the main campaign on Insane with my Squire (except The Summit, of course). I first leveled the Monk to 70, so I could also use auras for more efficienct builds. I then leveled five more characters to 70, using only the Squire and Monk for defenses and sitting on a crystal with the low-level character.

I found the above method extremely quick for leveling solo. It takes 4-5 runs to level a character from 0-70, even by only surviving 3-4 waves. Reaching higher waves (9+) would likely level them even faster. It also provides TONS of godly-tier gear, so I could easily outfit all characters with relatively "passable" stuff. I even beat wave 15 once, so I got the Hamster pet for my DPS monk :)

I'll give this a try. I haven't used the Summoner and EV yet, so I'm sure it'll be... interesting.

summoner is probably the only hero where u dont need to bother with minus stats. my summoner only got 4000 tower damage ~300k dmg Archer, ~570k dmg Mage (with ev tower buff beam)

Nah i just thought that u did beat wave 25 couple of times and got some not worst giraffes with at least 300 stats :3 ,, try farming them from the easiest map magus quarter. giraffes should push you beyond 500 :P at least builder wise

you need to upgrade your defenses for survival even if the 1st couple of waves were easily passed the late ones becomes way more difficult(just use some range character with a genie pet) genie pets are rewarded from several maps including "Hall of Court" survival wave 15

not sure how much good a summoner is in insane diff ... other than the fact that they have their own "MU", hey extra defense can always help no? and can make living walls that auto heal ... cant think of more atm :P

ev usually just use buff beams .. maybe physical walls and maybe reflection walls ,and evs dont really need high stats just give them the worst stuff :P

Buff Beams : boost your defense in a killing way: range boost to auras would be too helpful and gives about double the firepower if not more and their resistance .. yeah they will live longer

Physical Walls : you can build those walls a bit a way from the harpoons this will make ogres get stuck to them they will just try to walk to hit harpoons .. though minions walls can be used here instead

Well, I guess I've found the answer to my question regarding low-tier mythical items.

I started playing Nightmare, although like I said, all my characters only have stats around 100-200, with the tower/hero damage being around 300-350 for most of them. However, thanks to using the Summoner and EV, I actually managed to beat the first few levels on Nightmare Hardcore.

I never used those two classes before, and they seem really powerful. The Summoner literally gives you twice the resources to place your defenses and the EV's buff beams almost double the effectiveness of towers, minions and auras. Awesome suggestion, asas2007!

Even with my pitiful 100-300 stats, I managed to reach wave 16 on mixed mode Nightmare HC Survival on the third map (Magus Quarters) and got a pretty kickass pet for it. Now all I need is start leveling my characters to 74, so I could use mythical gear. Highest character is still 72, so it's gonna take some time.

I found two mythicals in the second Nightmare map and six mythicals on the third map. Then I played Survival on the third map, and found 372 mythicals by wave 16. I'm not even kidding, I actually counted :)

If you mean beating wave 25 on Nightmare, I think you're once again overestimating untwinked characters. Like I said, I only made it to wave 16, even with every single tower, aura, beam and minion upgraded to level 5 and constantly using Tower Boost. It's gonna be a LONG while until I can reliably farm stuff like giraffes :)

Insane non mix mode :P as far as my past experience goes they were best farmed from there ... not like am suggesting you to farm them either ^^ ...

but since you dont want to jump to any dlc before beating nm :P ... you may try the shards though, since nm was released after the shards were introduced ... not sure if any other dlc was released before nm as well you might want to check that as well :)

If you can beat it, later waves of Throne Room can be pretty rewarding for newer players. I'm not sure on what exactly stats do you need but I'm sure they don't need to be that high.
