the right answer is "bad".

Not last I checked. I haven't played in several months but what I remember was:

-Huge imbalanced. There are times when single towers or bosses reigned supreme for months without any balance changes. Trendy was also quite fond of the shotgun method effectively destroying whatever was so good when they got around to it.

-Great lag due to just about everything being server side.

-A terrible grind for characters via dailies and weeklies. This was particularily bad during 2016 that characters were the only thing the majority of players could spend the F2P currency on with a new character about every month or so.

-Misunderstanding problems. My example for this one goes along with the F2P model. IIRC Trendy was looking at charts to see what players were spending "defender medals" (the currency that's earned slowly to buy things the actual currency, "gems", are bought for) on which was mostly characters due to their high cost and new ones coming out fairly commonly. This had them subtract other content that costed medals due to not understanding why no one was buying the other things (like cosmetics, and pet eggs, and such).

-Cutting corners. Last I checked the lavamancer, mystic, and dryad didn't have the ability to look upward with your camera like the rest of the characters and the mystic and dryad didn't even have towers that changed with upgrades. Haven't played since the initiate.

-Backwards development. Trendy was making a lot of incursions (basically challenges like in DD1) throughout 2016 then decided to revamp 1-4 nightmare mode into 1-5 "chaos mode" for totally different rewards, difficulty, and enemies. Incursions did not receive chaos equivalents causing most of the previous dev time to be effectively wasted for the time being. Not to mention the challenges were somewhat fun, at least to me.

-Creating enemies that made a lot of towers useless. When chaos mode came out there were 5 tiers all of which brought their own new enemies with their own gimmicks that just plain countered towers honestly. They've made it a little better by dividing the enemies into specific chaos tiers but the majority towers were still often ignored when I last played. For example there were EMP orcs that disabled nearby traps and auras when they hit something, and it was like a 20 second disable time too. Then there was the geode crystal that completely blocked projectiles in a rather large radius. Traps and projectile towers were useless for the most part and I remember feeling like I could only use walls and piercing aoe towers.

-Either incompetence or stubborness in terms of bugs. Players complained about the "return to tavern" button not working correctly after finishing a map but we were told that it "was working as intended" for about a year before it began getting changed and even then people still had complaints.

-Odd things breaking with new updates. One of the characters, the gun witch's, abilities strangely broke after a map update. She wasn't mentioned in the patch notes because they were just adding a map so I don't know why one of her abilities wouldn't work. This is pretty hazy in memory since it was a while back however.

-Changing things players might have spent money, or at the very least resources, without aggreable reimbursement and the shard system. The game ran with an "orb system" where players could spend some defender medals for instant upgrades to their characters. This however, was thrown out for the "shard system" when chaos came along which refunded players in gold (the currency meant to buy basic things like armor and such as opposed to characters and cosmetics) and changed put all the orb effects, along with loads of new ones that were either super important or mostly useless, into RNG based drops you got one or two of after chaos levels. The system was also not explained, no one knew who dropped from what, and all towers and characters were nerfed to make way for these changes. Not to mention orbs had their own section in the inventory and if you only had to buy one. Shards take up space in the inventory (something that is often used to encourage paying microtransactions to buy more bag space) and you have to find multiple shards put them on multiple characters and armor without a reliable source.

They have become completely anti afk farming which I do alot of in DD1, not to mention other things that made DD1 sparkle to me. They took the rough instead of the diamond and tried to make a game out of it. I regret supporting the games development at all.

DD2 sucks, it was fun about 2 years ago. Now it sucks plenty - Invested $100 in the game.

Don't play it anymore because of the path they chose.

I wouldn't play either, after what trendy did to wildcard, and there huge amount of wrongful bans that they lifted without an apology. I'd suggest staying away from anything "Trendy"

DD2 is different. There are similarities and differences between the two games, but generally they play like they aren't really related. Yes they are action tower defense games with RPG elements, but that's basically where the similarities end. I personally have enjoyed both games.

DD2 is much better now after the last few patches that changed customization and rebalanced some unused defenses. More content is also coming through the end of the year. Either way, it's free and doesn't hurt to try it out. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Incredible how butthurt Ark fanbois can be. Wildcard brought that situation upon themselves by hiring Steiglitz before his non-compete contract expired. Go stink up civil conversations elsewhere.

Actually, they breached the non-compete clause by stealing employees from Trendy. Steiglitz was contacting current Trendy employees after leaving and offering them positions at Wildcard. That's when the lawsuit came.

Not an ark fanboy, if you look at my account, i even gave it a thumbs down. The fact they were so petty, and the fact that there isn't a competion in that field as the genre was different (hence the settling out of court, rather than taking it to court for financial reasons) isn't the sole issue. It's also the numerous amounts of false bans. Myself included, that ended up getting lifted a year later, with no apology, or acceptance of their wrong doing. Trendy is a horrible company.

DD2 is not as good as DD, just more freedom to play your way and not the way they want you to.

Hmm, never heard of false bans done by Trendy :)

It's actually much work for them to ban someone because there is no automatic process to do so. They have to look manually into your account after you have been reported. You might didn't know that you owned hacked items, some pieces are looking very legit for inexperienced players. There are temporary and permanent bans depending on the hacked items.
