Should I spend skill points in Hero abilities or just at Hero/Tower stats?

I really have no idea how to manage my skill points, for example for my DPS heroes I tend to put everything into damage plus a couple points into Health and for my Builders I put most points into tower damage and a bit on tower health/range/speed.

How about the actual Hero abilities though? Are those worth investing points? For example Battle Leap and Hawk Stance for the Barbarian, are those any good and should I invest skill points into those?

Same question for other characters as well, for example Huntresses Piercing Shot, should I invest points into this or just put everything in Hero damage if I am going the DPS route?

Generally points are best spent in hero damage or tower damage. Abilities will usually get enough points from your equipment.

There are some characters that do benefit significantly from putting points in places other than the default hdmg/tdmg. Examples include things like Summoner (Minion HP), Squire (Tower Attack Rate), and Series EV (Proton Charge Blast).

The apprentice benefits the most from skill points, as its manabomb when used right can kill anything and everything near you. Mine does 46M at CQ and the furthest out it does 32M. Thats enough power to kill a hord of ogres on survival, granted wont be as effective against late wave ogres who have over 80M HP.

As for the series EV its charge beam actually benefits more from the right weapon equiped during its firing. as im sure you have seen the post asking a for an ember sceptre on here, his reason for wanting one for his EV is because its power scales so high that it is capable of over 8M damage a tick with a prop cat equiped. Granted that score is based on one with about 80K in attack power, i currently have one that is hitting 110K and doing vastly more damage.

His question was relating to getting more distance out of non-standard hero spec, which still applies for Series EV. If you spec all your armor into hero attack, putting your hero points into Charge Blast will give you better damage output on it than putting those points into hero attack.
