Take On Helicopters

This game is terrible
This game is terrible.
The engine runs like complete crap on my i7 with 12 gigs of triple channel ram and AMD 7850 loading off an SSD.
The controls are just plain bad. Some of the worst i've had to deal with.
I want to like this game but i'm just wanring anyone thinking of buying it to NOT BUY IT.

I'm using a flight stick, Free track for head movement, you would think I could at least have some kind of fun with it.

I say, forget this game....goto digitalcombatsimulator.com and download DCS World with a free Su25T plane and then buy either the A10c Warthog or the KA 50 Black Shark. now thats a simulator that doesn't run like crap, control like crap, and actually lets you flick the switches in the cockpit unlike this....piece of rubbish!

Sadly... i agree with you

I love this game.
If you think the engine runs like crap now, you should have seen it before Rearmed!

You may want to elaborate on "bad controls," but I can guess.
I have the sensitivity all the way down in-game and I always calibrate my joystick in the Windows control panel before launching the game. This seems to help with old joysticks.

Also, trim your aircraft! My joystick buttons 1-6 are all three trim axes. If I am flying the medium or heavy then I'm flying with mostly trim and throttle. And don't fly them sideways!
If you have to you can turn the difficulty setting down to veteran.

The Hind is INSANE. If you want to fly this awesome military helicopter then be prepared to play it on veteran difficulty. I have fun with it on expert but it is pretty wild.

The light is the easiest to control and most fun to play. Here is a video of the light in the Rearmed beta:
Rearmed Beta.mp4
EDIT: Ok, I just watched this video and maybe it isn't the best example of "controlled" flight!

If this kind of flying doesn't appeal to you then you may want to skip Take On. The campaign is short and the mission editor is pretty hard to use for the average gamer (unless you're just placing objects to shoot at).

I agree that everyone should download DCS World. I have both A10 and KA50. Also, long live Falcon 4.0!

The button mashing and ramp starting in those games is great, but I really only start "ready to taxi." I've only started the Falcon from the ramp once and never in BMS. I do value being able to experience the procedure though.

Since Take On Helicopters is an incremental improvement of Arma2, I think the startup procedure just simulates having a startup procdure, rather than jumping in and mashing on the throttle until you go up (like Arma2, BF3, etc).
Also, you probably don't want Bohemia programming your cockpit logic!

DCS and Falcon 4 BMS are your pure simulators but I think Take on Helicoptors simulates flying expertly.

Well i'll sit down with it at the weekend but I don't hold much hope.
In the demo my Chopper was spinning crazy. Actually it was more like a right hand roll.Something to do with the trim.
I'm using a Cyborg X which has a profile in the game itself. I couldn't be anymore ready for this game but once it's loaded......no fun is to be had.

No kidding, worse game or flight sim ever!!!!

Why didn't you try the demo? lol

I just ahve the demo, but I can control the choppers perfectly so you need to work on your hardware setup if you cannot control choppers. You can criticize the flight model of this game but nothing is wrong with the control software. I have KA-50 BlackShark 2 and that game was great except that the framerate was really, really bad on my system and TOH runs much better.

You must be flying with all kinds of helpers on in the easy setting then.
It's rolls to one side constantly, no matter what control config I use. It's broken.
I've been using PC's since 1992, i'm not new to any of this.
Also you obviously had the wrong settings for Black Shark 2 , turn the cockpit display resolution down to 256 and turn the tree visability down, job done ;)

Not a real world helo pilot ... but it seems reasonable while in forward flight that there will be an asymmetry of lift with more on the side of the helicopter with the advancing blade. I fly RC helicopters a little and a slight right roll is always apparent to me (clockwise rotating blades as viewed from above).

As far as Blackshark goes ... the effect does not exist with counter-rotating rotors. When DCS does manage to simulate a single rotor helo, I think you'll notice some different handling tendancies. There is a noticeable reaction where the main rotor wash interacts with the tail rotor, and vice versa ... just two of the things DCS Blackshark pilots have never encountered before.

It's not a slight roll.
Not even close to a slight roll.
It's like a full hard roll that even pushing the opposite direction on the stick doesn't level it up.

As for a single rotor in DCS, Huey is coming in a month or so.
Rattner219 7/nov./2012 às 10:34
Okay ... then I have no idea. I don't get a massive roll in my copy.

Disconnect any gamepad you have connected. You'll also see this effect on the X52 if one of the sliders is a) set to trim b) not centralized.

Open up the windows controller panel 'devices and printers'. Any game controllers will have an entry there you can check properties of.

96 hours into the game, and dissapointed in the flight model and graphics engine. A top lin e spec Machine and this Game gives me low Spec Performance. Loads of potential but cant deliver in its current state. I really would like to enjoy this but the stuttering and limited visibility is killing it for me.
Bulgut 27/dez./2012 às 16:24
True, system requirements are rather high and game's engine is veeery demanding but I still love the game. Hinds :)

How can I optimize this game?
I have 580SLI and runs very slow.
I think we have been abandoned by the developer.
The game needs to be optimized urgently.

Not going to happen.
Arma is just as bad....
