You can! It's called flight school. All it takes is a firm decision to do it. Good Luck.

Several instances have been reported of drug runners renting helicopters to ferry drugs across the border, ususally Can-USA. The knuckleheads have more money than sense and don't always realise that they needed flight lessons before stepping into the cockpit, something more than GTA. Nonetheless, modern helo cockpits are simple enough that even a person with no training can start one up and fly. Fly well, not at all. In every instance I know of, the helicopter took considerable damage from being mishandled, think "Live Free Or Die Hard". In at least one instance that I can think of, everybody in the aircraft was killed in a crash, so:

BIG DISCLAIMER - Don't Fly A Helicopter Without Proper Flight Instruction.

But yes, there are many reputable helo flight schools around. You need your fixed wing before you can move on to rotary, but most schools will be happy to give you an inexpensive "promotional" flight to get you up in the air. I highly reccommend that!

Here in Canada you don't require your fixed wing in order to get rotary, which is nice. I've been slowly gaining hours in an R22 for awhile now.

Once you make the decision to go through with it, stick to your guns and you'll never regret it.

You DO NOT need a fixed wing license to fly helicopters. I'd recommend saving up for a few hours of flight training. It's really worth it in my opinion. The 15 mintues they'll give you with a "promotional" flight just isn't enough. It will really get you hooked. I saved up 5 grand and flew for a few hours to see if it was something I'd really like to do. Just be careful you'll get addicted! There's nothing like flying a real helicopter! Start saving today.

second that :)
how much would it be as an average? how many flight hours per month would you need to mantain your skill? :)

No more expensive than paying for college. For a private license you need about 13k to 15k. Once you have that, add a helo class to your pilots certificate (about an extra 6k). Then it's just a matter of logging flight hours. If you become an instructor you can log hours as you charge new students. Expect to pay about 30k to get a commercial license. If you make it a carreer it's well worth the expense, but if it's a hobbie than it will be a really expensive one.
