How is Co-op?

I'm thinking of getting a copy of this game for a friend to enjoy some Co-op, but I don't know how it plays out.

Can someone fill me in?

I wish I knew how coop was. So far my friend and I get killed by random level 5 stuff off the bat.

I'll put up a guide sometime on how to play each faction well and how to get started in Free Game mode. As for how fun it is, I find this is one of my favourite co-op games by far. For me, it's much smoother than any other RTS I've played and the avatars give it great progression and actually working towards some tangible goal and fighting to advance your character, rather than some up-in-the-air idea that winning each battle just makes you "better at the game".

As far as Co-op goes, this game is easy in the beginning but the difficulty ramps up pretty fast, resulting in some frantic battles and epic victories with friends. The Humble Bundle has passed by this point, which is sad but I hope you got it for your friend in the end.
