Modern PC? Don't buy Spellforce! Buyer Beware!

Don't bother buying these even at $12 for the pack if you own Windows 8. I can't play Spell Force 1, as it requires me to install the DX9 that came with it that has specific libraries that are needed for the game to run. So of course it crashes during gameplay, I can't even go into the options, it instantly crashes. I've tried compatibility mode going back to Windows XP SP3, it doesn't help.

Spell Force 2 Gold edition will not run at 1920x1080, it ignores the config file.

Seems the devs are sort of supporting these games. Though I don't understand why they haven't updated the older games in the series, especially right before running a sale like this.

I own the older ones from steam. I dont play them because they do not support widescreen resolutions. It looks funny playing them stretched out. Wish they would patch the older ones also.

I am having no problems running Spellforce 1, gold or platinum on windows 7 pro 64bit at any resolution. Maybe it just depends on how old the version you are using is. Have you tried running the games on diferent compatibility settings? For example I run them on ( windows xp service pack 3 ) setting .

There are windowed mode mods which make them able to run in different resolutions, google is your friend. ;)

Im playing this one on Win8 64bit at 1360x768 by just selecting play on steam

You have something setup wrong, either hardware and/or software. I have 201 Steam games installed and working on Win 8 64 bit (not including non-Steam games).

I did have an issue when I installed a new SSD and did not change from IDE to AHCI in the computer BIOS, I had issues with running Steam games.

I changed the computer BIOS setting to AHCI from IDE for all my SATA hdd's, reinstalled Win 8
and boom it runs perfectly now.

This includes 1999 era games and modern games.

Edit: 10/22/13 I found one steam game that does not run on Win 8, but this is the case of everyone else with that game, not some can run it and some can't. So in that case, yes, the game is broken. But when some can run the game and some can't doesn't mean the game is broken.

Running both Spell Force 2 Gold and Faith in Destiny at 2560 x 1440 resolution with no problems on windows 7 64bit.

Works fine for me on 64 bit Windows 8. Platinum should work on 64 bit systems, for certain.

Works only partially. About 2/3 of the way through the game there is a game stopping lazy coding error. Don't waste your money or time on this turkey.

Game works good for me, and I run it on a widescreen. Though the multiplayer could use some improvement, and apparently some people outside of america can't even get multi player games to work. But I dig the game.

It's not a widescreen game and I'm okay with that. What I'm not okay with is the fact that I played Spellforce 2 Gold with zero issues, but can't get more than 2 minutes into Faith in Destiny's campaign without getting an access violation crash.
