I don't like Dustforce, and I can't really put my finger on why, though I have my suspicions. Let's start with all the things this game does right, though:
-Cool theme/graphical style
-Fun characters (all functionally identical, but visually distinct)
So what's wrong with Dustforce? It's hard to put into words, as the vocabulary for platform video game reviewing is still in its infancy and words like "floaty", "mushy", "heavy", "satisfying" and so on are all very subjective. If I was forced to put it into words, I'd say that your character is too heavy, yet doesn't have enough inertia - it takes a while to get up to speed, and it's very easy to lose that momentum with the way that levels are designed. It's fairly fluid when you play perfectly, but it falls apart in the hands of an inexpert player.
The overworld is directionless and confusing. There are no (threatening) enemies, so this is purely platforming for the sake of platforming. Rarely are you directly challenged - the game is clearly designed for speedrun enthusiasts.
Here in the modern era of gaming, you have tons of options if you're looking to run and jump on some platforms. If I were you, I'd be cautious about this one. Check out Super Meat Boy instead.
