This is a terrible idea especially for new players. Players that come into the game fresh want to experiment and learn not get pummeled on day 1.

Matchmaking has been improved to help ensure that players are matched against players of more similar skill levels. While all matches are therefore ranked, new players should not find themselves getting matched against high level players. There are also locks every 5 levels to ensure that players who go on losing streaks do not lose all of their rank progress.

That's because the game doesn't have many players currently... Things should improve if numbers pick up.

What were your queue times like, Blind777? The longer you are in queue, the more that the match making system will search for players outside of your immediate rank range.

That may have had an effect; we apologize! With this patch, we actually implemented a number of changes to the match making system that should help in avoiding high rank disparity between opponents in Versus.
