Homeworld.
Sins of a Solar Empire.

It's a very neglected genre.

Yeah, it is a very negelected genre :L I really hope that they retry the Nexus 2 kickstarter. I would truly love to be able to play a new game like this :D

You can control whole fleets in Conquest Frontier Wars, although it is more RTS centric.
There is also the Star Trek Armada series.
If you are willing to go back even more, Starflight series, Hard Nova, are good choices.
Some of them are available here on Steam, others on GOG, others....elsewhere.

Star Wolves I guess (tho at least first SW was not that great really) and yea you should try Homeworld, Homeworld Cataclysm and Homeworld 2. There is also this The Mandate which I hope will have some similarities to Nexus http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=183136358 almost funded thru kickstarter ( atm they have already 450k out of 500k).

Nexus 2 Kickstarter didn't make their funding goals, so the devs didn't go forward with any further development. They were rather explicit about this at the time.

I really wish they would, though. This is easily one of my favorite games of all time. Own several copies of it, in fact. :)

Eh though big fleest and such Homeworld is not really like this as its an RTS where as this is more a fleet simulator in which you have limited units no construction and RPG elements. The mandate is a very good one to keep your eye on, however will take a year before its close to ready

I think they chose to do it at a bad time, caus ei didnt even know about it till after it had finished. Who knows maybe they might try crowd funding it again one day.

Reunion was a good game back in 1994 by Grandslam (EU version) that game was divine....no game similar has yet to be released, i would be happy with a modernized version of reunion, think of it like Colonization for windows, except its reunion for windows, that would be so awesome.

When it comes to Homeworld 2, the AI outright cheats and it doesn't even try to hide it, it breaks the rules players are limited to, it knows instantly where you are, even when you are cloaked (they just don't fire at you, they just follow you around, while you are cloaked), its just offputting that the developers have to make AI blatantly break the rules to make them challenging and to be honest, all games should have difficulty settings, not a dynamic one.

Reunion was great but it was an upgraded and different theme version of Storm Master.
There are more good sci-fi games. From a bit earlier there is Utopia which was IMO fantastic.
Millenium 2.2 and Deuteros were great too.
Even Dragon Breath, although of course not a sci-fi game.

I miss Reunion lol.

Sadly Nexus: TJI with its support of Newtonian physics, true 3D movement and combat (for a fleet command game), very extensive ship customizability, targeting of individual components, and solar system physics hasn't been replicated by any other game to my knowledge.

This means we need Nexus 2 all the more badly.

+1

Nexus 2 would be amazing. Seems like interest in it comes in waves. The devs has stated that if their FB page gains enough likes that they will consider returning to development. I suggest anyone that wants to see Nexus 2 go swing by the page, leave a comment and a like.
