The problems you have in Win7 are related to User Account Control. All you have to do is turn it off temporarily while you install the game, then it wont matter if you are an admin or not. You can turn it on again when your finished but to be honest, I ran win 7 with it turned off permenantly that way it ran just like win xp with a different desktop.
If you have intense paranoia about turning off your UAC temporarily, then you can just unplug the network cable or switch off your home router so you know your absolutly safe from the internet when you switch UAC off...though you may want to ask your next door neighbours to stop using any blutooth or wireless devices while you perform your install just to be sure. You should be reasonably safe from being hacked during your install if you do that, but be aware it wont save you from those wardrive guys who roam the countryside in cars with wireless so thay can hack into peoples home computers, to combat this, if you have a sibling or other relative you can have stand guard as a lookout and alert you to any approaching vehicles with lots of aerials driven by beared guys, also be alert for chalk symbols appearing on the pavement outside your home, a sure sign you have been hacked apparently.
Please be aware this advice comes from someone who has been hacking the chip my next door neighbour put in his cat for months now, so far I can make it turn left and right, meow a lot beg for food, all controlled via a web interface. I just need to develop a routine that makes it crap on its own lawn and my work is done.
Utwig.
Initially I wanted Homeworld which is why I'm here today for the remastered version! So re-installing the old steam to get to read the forums, take the temperature and be ready to jump in if it's a green light. Tho I'm pretty sure we'll suffer the usual post launch bugs.
Then again you you never know, we might not - and then I wake up :D
