Just got the sim and I'm having a hard time getting started. I need some help please.

Hi pilots, This my first post. A liitle bit about myself. I'm a retired US Navy combat Veteran. After serving with some of the finest people in the world (Sailors,Marines, Soldiers and Airmen)
I miss those guys, and a very long and tough combat tour in iraq, I returned home and hung up my gloves. I am now living the good life in the east coast of the U.S (with my comander in chief CincHouse (Wife) the two department heads (kids) and my platoon mates a pair of german shapards. So here's my issue, I just got this sim yesturday, off amazon digital services. The download went fine. I added it to steam. Problem is, it wont launch. I feel a bit embarrased which is why I'm asking for some help here. I'm currenlty running a brand new quad core laptop @2.8, 8gb Ram, on Windows 8.1. I have beeen running other games on Total War Series (Shogun 2, Empire & Napoleaon) steam with no problems.
1) Is this a compatability issue with windows 8 ?
2) Is there a patch or mod outside of steam that I can add inroder to get it started? How so ?
3) This was a digital download, which I dont belive would make a difierance or should I try the get the disk.?
Guys I appreceate any feed back good or bad.

Be sure to install the latest ATAG Team Fusion patches located here: http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5058&p=52711

They all need to be installed in the specific order. Let me know if you need any further help, but things should run smooth after installing the patches. They basically fix majority of the bugs that the game launched with back in the day...

no need for the disc

atag has the mods, apply a mode delete the cache folder ( in documents...1c...etc ) then run the game to make sure it runs...proceed to next patch and repeat

get ts3 also game is much better when u talk to your wingman!
