Before reading this review. please put aside my playtime, it really does not mean anything.
Hello there person lucky enough to read this review before buying this game. This game is not a good game. Well, at first it was. The first ten levels were very enjoyable and fair. They taught me new things as it came along. Then the odyssey level came as the 11th level. And it ruined all joy I had with the game. It was probably one of the stupidest, most horrible and stupid difficulty spikes I have experienced for a LONG time. The level was 5x as long as the previous levels, and the most stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mistake would send you all the way back to the beginning. Speaking of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, the level was full of it. I found myself saying: "I totally slid there!" "I just jumped that hill!" And other things like that. The entire level was full of trial and error, but the boss after it had more, more on the boss later. The game is incredibly sadistic in a horrible way. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deaths, trial and error were the ways I found myself dying the most. And before you think I suck at video games, I have played lots of other hardcore indie games (Super Meat Boy, Binding of Isaac etc) and got a far distance in them. Those games are fair and death is always your fault. When I finally beat the horrible level, I was not even excited that I beat the level. I was just glad it was over with. Then to pile up on a mountain of crap that one level produced, a horrible boss fight followed. There was a short fair level segment before, and then the easy looking boss came. The first phase is fair enough, then the second phase came. I have a habit of kicking and jumping at the same time, and it works alot of the time. But guess what? Right after he drops an obstacle you kick at, he instantly, without warning, descends, killing me with a horrible trial and error death. I was infuriated how an indie classic could throw such a stupid death at me. The third phase is no better. More stupid trial and error deaths that have no warning whatsoever. I never beat the boss because I decided to stop. The game is not rewarding at all. Two horrible levels one after another ruined the entire experience and causes me to stop playing the game. If the levels afterward were good, the horrible boss fight and stupid level beforehand prevented me from moving onward to the probably fun, fair game.
Also the music is more repetitive than ever. You get to listen to the almost EXACT SAME SONG for 11 levels. Speaking of repetitive, this game uses the boring and stale retro graphics. Even though they might have not been stale whenever this was made, still got lost points from me.
Save yourself from this. Runner2 is SO MUCH better. It is fair and fun, with a great artstyle, and other things.
