I wish Steam had an "in-between" button for reviews. Because this game was sort-of fun to play, but there is so much wrong with it. BIT.TRIP BEAT has a very interesting concept that looked like it would appeal to me. Essentially, it's Pong, if you took a bunch of drugs before you played it. It's also a rythm game. This game had so much potential that they just wasted. This game only has three levels, plus an extremely short Portal-themed one. BUT THAT'S IT. That's all the content that's in this game. The first two levels are incredibly easy, and then the third and final level finally adds a challenge. And that's annoying because they could have let those first two levels be incredibly easy, and then added more progessively harder levels after that, instead of just having three. Oh yeah, and I should maybe mention the fact that this game costs $10. $10?!?!? $10 for three levels. That's incredibly bad pricing. I'm not too mad because I got this game on sale for $1, but seriously, $10?
Despite this review's first paragraph, I didn't completely hate this game. I really love the menu style. In the menu, when you click on any of the buttons, a ball will come flying at you, and you have to deflect it. If you don't deflect it, it doesn't let you navigate the menu. I really like this feature, it's very creative. I also like the huge variety of different ball types when you are playing. There are also some powerups in the game that make you have two paddles, make your paddle larger, and more.
So, this game was okay. But, it has an unreasonably high price tag. I recommend picking up this game if it's on sale for $2.50 or less. But no more.
