Clock Tower game crash
My game keeps crashing when i pull down a lever in the clock tower to change the numbers on the gears. Is there something wrong with the game or is it just my cpu?

I have the same issue with Win 8. Is there any fix currently available?

Go to your Steam install folder, then steamapps, common, and Myst Masterpiece. Right-click Myst.exe, go into properties, then under the Compatibility tab, check the box which says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". Select WIndows 98 / Windows Me. The sound will be a little scratchy, but the game won't crash ever again. It may seem like the game still crashes when saving, but give it about half a minute and it'll save. Oh, and select "Run in 256 colors" and "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" for good measure. I'm not sure if it's necessary, but I checked them off anyways because it doesn't do any harm.

Sorry for the wall of text. I couldn't think of a cleaner way to format it which didn't involve abusing my enter button.

When I turned on those old old versions of Compatibility Mode (in Windows 7), the game screwed up trying to open and then Steam got mad at me (asking me to switch out of Compatibility Mode). My troubleshooter decided I should have Compatibility Mode for Windows XP, so I've done that. It works better now, but still likes to jam up in the middle of the clocktower puzzle. :/

Same here and tried every solution so far that i have come across. Kinda want to be refunded now but steam wont do that. :(

My dad found it; it's in the control panel, under troubleshooting. Find the programs section, click on "run for previous versions of Windows" and find Myst when it prompts you to. =)
It still crashes for me when I reach the combination 3, 3, 3. I do not yet know why.

I am having the same issue

I have this issue, a video issue, and a saving issue. I've played with all of the compatibility modes and I can either get the game to play video, save, and crash, or no video, no saving, and not crash. I haven't been able to win all three battles. It's really disappointing to get psyched for the game, buy it, then hit these problems. I hope someone finds a fix all for everyone.

I found this in a thread addressing my saving problem. I just wanted everyone in this thread to know that follow Dj Growl's advice has fixed all of the issues I was facing, including the clocktower crash! :)

I think I figured it out. I have Windows 7, and followed the advice on getting the Clock Tower Crash to work, but tried one more step. I set the compatability for Myst.exe in the {Steam install directory}\SteamAoos\common\Myst Masterpiece to Windows 95, and had Run in 256 colors, Disable visual themes, Disable desktop composition, and Disable display scaling on high DPI setiings checked. I believe the minimum is the Run in 256 colors. I Successfully saved and restored files. Upon Saving or restoring, it appeared that my computer hung, but it was actually loading the files. You can hear stuttering sounds while this happens, and it takes 30 seconds or so, but voila you can save and restore.

Try contacting Cyan support they may not know about this problem;
