Game Crashes.
I'm getting a lot of crashes and technical issues when I am trying to play RealMyst. I'm not seeing the images inside the books, and there is massive slowdown in the central hub. I am also getting crashes when I try to access the brother's books and accessing the topographical chamber. Are these known issues? Should I turn on/off certain setting to prevent crashes and slowdown? I started the game in default settings. Any help is appreciated.

I'm getting the same sort of resulta. Each time I am in the game for about five minutes or so and try leaving a book or sometimes turning another page, the game crashes. Seems I remember the 'real' version of the game having similar problems. If the other Myst games behave like this, I'll be really pissed and would want a refund!

Come on Steam, where's the Help??

I think the book crash problem is somewhat related to the old version of Quicktime the game uses to play movie files. Try renaming the movie folder in the realMYST/MYST directory. You'll lose the movies, but maybe the game will work then, for now at least?
I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH STEAM, VALVE, OR CYAN WORLDS....... so this obviously is NOT an official answer. :)

PLEASE IGNORE this comment... that was only for the original MYST that used QuickTime.

For realMYST try searching your steam folders for RealMYST.exe. Right click on it, and select troubleshoot compatibility. Allow it to set some default settings (XP SP2 compatibility mode). Don't bother testing it with the wizard, the game will only launch from steam. Just apply the default wizard options, and run from steam. This worked for me.
And again, I don't work for any company involved, so please don't sue me. :)

I have Windows vista. I put graphics down to low, made sure anti aliasing was off and I was on windows svs pack 2 not 3.. Everything seems to be working now. :)
