Need help for .vpk
With the death of swarmarmory most the the links to tutorials i find are broken. My problem is that i have a custom map i made and i'm trying to get it from bsp to vpk. I can put it together, my as client says it's installed but it doesn't show up in the possible campaigns (other people's custom maps do).

Where do i go for help/what details should i start by posting?

The file structure of your addon must be similar to:
Steam\SteamApps\common\alien swarm\swarm\addons\ExampleAddon\
But don't use default filenames:
CustomCampaignCredits.txt
example_map_1.txt
ExampleCampaign.txt

rename them accordingly to your campaign name

Okay i think i have some of the filenames copied from the example addon, i'll look into it and repost.

valve wiki has all the docs u'll ever need about mapping or anything source. so, just use search and u'll find it.

when it comes to asw, exampleaddon campaign, which comes with sdk, will get u started in the right direction. u only need 2 follow some guidelines:
  • the only filenames u can use originally r: addoninfo.txt and addonimage.jpg; every other filename must b unique - best practice is to create them in the manner similar to original campaign filenames - but not the same, ofc
  • u need 2 create both navigation nodegraph and mesh files - ain and nav files, for every map u make - both can b done pretty simply, just by running autogeneration
  • the folder structure and file placement should follow the great source ways - no need 2 be creative there - if u have no idea where something goes, just check where official game places those files, and then make the same substructure in ur own addon folder
  • vpk packing, as a final step, is pretty straight forward - for any executable command line help u can always use /? to check for options

btw, any idea when u plan releasing this out to the public? the new version of the mappack is almost but all out, however, if u plan releasing it soon, we may wait a bit to add ur campaign to it also. just if u don't take more than a few weeks. b sure 2 reply with more info on this.

Thanks for the help goodone but i have no intention of releasing this to others except my firends, it's essentially the 2nd map i ever made, it's small and has no textures/flavor. I'm using it as much needed practice before i start making some good stuff.

I've been following this tutorial to no avail: is there something missing? The error is the same, it doesn't show up in the selectable campaigns in game.

r u sure u didn't use ExampleCampaign.txt for the filename? other than that file, there's no other reason ur campaign not to show in the list; given that u filled other campaign definition files correctly, ofc.

if u r not releasing, nav and ain r not that important. game will autogenerate them and store them in correct folders. it's only important for wide scale distribution.

btw, i look forward to that good stuff u promised here. :p

aha maybe it's that i have invalid charachters (a space) in some of the names (btw the file is called campaign text.txt)

Hmm still no dice. Does anyone mind doing this by skype with screen sharing so i can get this fixed once and for all?

ur campaign is fixed and delivered 2 ur email. it was mostly metafiles typo problems.
