There is a petition for Alien swarm needs 9 more signatures...
So I discovered this in one of the Forums, someone has set up a petition and it just needs 9 more signatures: https://www.change.org/petitions/do-you-care I do not know if it's old or if it counts, but if it's true. That would be great.

You know what. I have absolutely ZERO sympathy for the Alien Swarm community if Alien Swarm dies off. Why? I busted my @ss - absolutely worked my f*cking @ss off - to build a brand new AS campaign (Reduction), but I just needed some help to continue it to finish it. I had spent ALL my savings to keep working on it.

So I turned to the AS community for help with two kickstarter campaigns.

The AS community didn't lift a finger. Maybe a handful of people contributed.

And I'm certain that Valve took note of that too: Valve: "They say they want AS to contniue, but they are prepared to spend NOTHING to help support it. Yet they come begging and pleading to us for help."

If you want to know why AS is dying look in the mirror.

Look in the mirror? I just started playing the game again after a while and trying to help those that want the game to live to go on. I did not even know about you and your projects but I can understand the fustration from losing your savings. This game is super quiet, without anyone advertising about it, but there are still people making maps and dedicating their work for the game. I have no sympathy ether. I hope things go better for you, I do not know why you need to spend money on making campaign levels, like what you need and stuff. I hope things get better for you.

Hey Carter,

I just wanted to say that after clocking 1800 hours in Alien swarm I could tell that your Reduction campaign is extremely well made. I could speak on everyone’s behalf that we appreciate the time and effort you put into this game. Not only have you added creative puzzles such cutting open that cargo box with chainsaws but also a lot of your props are custom made. Campaigns such as Lanas and Tears for Tanor are considered by all to be some of the best but none has the amount of detail or the level of polish as Reduction. Another aspect that stands out in Reduction is that there’s actually a very well thought out story. Most campaigns are just a string of maps that lead you from one environment to the next but with Reduction there is a reason and a purpose why these marines are there. Hell you even have a little cut-scene at the end of the last mission which was awesome.

Now I have some friendly advice for you. $19,000 is not a small sum of cash. On average there’s about what 500 player in AS at one time (and that’s being generous). Out of those 500 how many of them actually have custom maps? Right now you’re fishing for a whale in a pond. If you applied your skills to a different game such as Team Fortress which has hundreds of thousands of players, only then will $19,000 become reachable goal. Maybe you can create something like Garry’s Mod and sell it on steam if you’re really that strapped for cash. I can tell that you spent a lot of time in SDK but take some time to browse the actual game lobby. How many rooms are open? How many dedi servers are up? Not a lot huh? Well one thing that you can do set your goal to something like $2000 and that brings out 6 maps (half the campaign). Then for every $1000 after this you will release the next map. So $3000 total would mean 7 maps are released. $4000 = 8 maps so on and so on.

I wrote this long ♥♥♥ comment because I felt you deserve to have a honest opinion and to wish you the best of luck.

Indeed, there are no more than about 50 players with more than 1000 hours, I'm one of them, so this game is really a nitch game. In my opinion, AS has very nice concepts and fun play style. If developed properly it might attract a larger player base. One can not expects too much player interest so the fundraising targets and strategy that Strike suggested is spot on.

the petition owner is pushing the goals as we go. imo, it's a respectful and needed idea.

I hope it's a good idea, I have no experience with petitions.

every petition can do some change, even those directed to Valve.

what a joke. black cat games made the entire game (ut mod, not the source remake) on their own time, and you expect people to pay you $15k to make a campaign? modders don't get paid, deal w/ it.
