Portal 2
Portal 2 Game Specs?
So I bought Portal 2 for my PC, and it plays, but it runs like a fat kid in the middle of August. I get like 12 FPS. I'm running a standard Windows 7, 64-bit, home computer. I haven't added any new hardware to it. What hardware/software would I have to add to allow Portal to run smoother? How much time/money would I need? Or, what computer do you use for gaming, and have you changed anything, or is it stock?

Try turning down the graphics. from the main menu, go to options -> video -> advanced settings, and try turning a few things down. Also, try using iobit's game booster which can be found here. [www.iobit.com] This is a good way to jump up 10 or so fps, as it shuts off background programs using memory. Hope this helps!
More than likely it is your graphics card.. do you know what you have now? As for cost to upgrade to something better, a decent graphics card can be had for under $200 but it would be helpful to know more about your computer, namely CPU and RAM and whether or not it has PCI Express.

If you don't know what your computer specs are, go to the start menu, type dxdiag.exe in the search box, click on the program and it will show you what your pc has. Click on save all information and save it to where you want it to be. Open the .txt file and copy and paste it here.

Where is your display and sound driver information? We need them too.

The integrated graphics chip just can't handle the game. You need to buy a dedicated graphics card.

You are running on integrated graphics which isnt going to give a good gaming experience in general.

The good news is, you could get a fairly low end GPU for in the region of $100 which could handle this game - it doesnt take much to run it. The bad news is, given you bought a prebuilt machine, it very likely has a PSU which is designed to handle specifically what was supplied with the machine and nothing more.

Your best option would be to ask someone you know IRL for help on it, they can look to see how upgradable your current setup is (Im going to guess its more hassle than its worth and buying a new one would be the way to go).

Okay, thanks. Any suggestions on a good gaming PC?

Either one of these two: http://www.alienware.com/Landings/desktops.aspx

If you don't mind the price and have the know-how (or have a friend who knows how to, like me), you can build yourself an extremely overpowered custom desktop...

Wow.That second one looks like a monster to build.I assume you've built you're own computer?
DO NOT BUY AN ALIENWARE
build your own. there are guides online. it will be cheaper and faster than any alienware, plus smaller and less bloatware
You need to have the game at the lowest settings. If you have 248MB of memory, you need to only run games at 128MB of Video Memory or Graphics.

I have:
Dell Inspiron N5050 Laptop
Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
Intel Core 2nd Gen i3-2350M 2.3GHz Processor (intel HD Graphics 3000| 256MB Video)
6GB DDR3 SDRAM @1333MHz

I can run the game at medium, but I prefer to keep my frame rate up so I have it at the lowest settings.
