Local Co-Op?
Hi I am new to Steam as well as PC gaming. I noticed that Portal 2 can be played Co-Op. How does that work on a PC? I have one controller I guess I need another or will 2nd person use the keyboard or is this online Co=op play? Sorry if this is noob question :)

You can team up with someone online. I don't believe there is anything you can do locally.
Okay thanks. Will probably get it during the sale.

You need two computers. Doesn't need to be online if you activate the console and connect each other with the console. But, it's better to use internet and steam to play coop, is the easy way.

ACtually, if you hook up two controllers and press start for both you can play locally on one computer. I've done it before. Don't listen to the others.

Rambo is right. With two controllers, you can play splitscreen just like the console version.
Thanks everyone. I've got a wired Xbox/Windows controller and the other ones are wireless for the Xbox console. Can I not use the wireless ones?

You can use wireless controlls, but you'll have to get a wireless receiver to be able to connect them to the PC. Unfortunately, Microsoft only sells those bundled with a controller. You might be able to find one without the controller on eBay or Amazon, but beware of fake copies.

All those who say splitscreen is NOT possible are wrong and terribly lazy.
Local coop is possible. All you need are 2 joypads to start. Splitscreen is either vertical or horizontal (set that in options).

Is local co-op possible on a Mac with two PS3 joypads?

I haven't tried it as I've never owned a Mac, but I would assume so. It's the same game and it runs natively if I'm not mistaken.

After a little bit of research, it seems some people have issues with buttons on P2's controller activating actions for P1 (with Xbox controllers, though), so beware of that. Only a very small number of reported occurances though, and a long time ago as well.
