Light Computation in PeTI
The one thing that takes longest to load when re-building a test chamber is light computation, to address this I would like to see a toggle between "actual light" and "neutral light". By neutral light I mean a light that casts no shadows or dark spots that makes it much easier and faster to load. The basic idea being that neutral light can be toggled on when testing the puzzle components of the chamber as this often involves constant re-building of the chamber. This way, re-building will be considerably faster, making testing more convenient. After all the puzzle components are sorted out the question of lighting can be addressed by toggling actual light on.

If you like this idea please do spread the good word (mentioning me as the original suggester would be highly appreciated) or you can suggest a better forum(s) for me to post this.

It is possible to compile the map without the lighting step(in Hammer), but gels will not function without the lighting. If you get the PTI style changer, it will make lighting compile in a simpler mode which takes less time (you can still compile normally by holding control or shift during the lighting step). If you enter mat_fullbright 1/0 into the console, it will show you how this lighting looks.

True it is a possibility, but I still think improving the original program is something that should be done. Personally I have yet to experiment with mods as there is a risk involved. (I am careful by nature and tend to avoid risks at times). In the end of it, this was intended as a suggestion on ways to improve the default in-game program.

The style changer isn't really that dangerous to install. It only replaces a few files, and if you mess up you can validate your game, redownloading the original files. I unfortunatley don't think Valve will implement this kind of thing, because it's a bit technical and because fullbright looks horrible and isn't intended for maps. I do recommend getting the style changer and beemod, they add so much more items to improve chambers.

I still see it as a possibility, despite technicality and while fullbright does look horrible, I don't mean it to be used for the actual puzzles, just the building and testing.
