Portal 2: Publishing error: There was an error connecting to steam.

Someone help with this publishing error in portal 2: "There was an error connecting to steam. Please verify your connection and try again."
I wish i could just punch my map in the face and force it onto the Steam Workshop. But that won't happen. How do I fix this error? As of me posting this, I have portal 2 running with this error popping up every time I try to publish the map. How is it asking me this when I have steam running right now?

I'm having the same problem, though I don't even get an error message. Mine just sits on the "creating geometry" section and never gets any further. I've even tried creating a blank room with nothing in it... with no luck.

I've tried it on both of my computers, have restarted them both... nothing.

Very frustrating, especially considering my son has been waiting to play this coop map I've been creating all afternoon.

I tried to play a custom map with a friend on Wednesday, and we got the same error. It seems to be an "on and off" situation. But it could be either the servers or the workshop.

Same with mine. For the past 3 or 4 days. I can subscribe and play a map, as well as build one and play it, but not publish. So yeah, I can do everything but publish. At first I thought "me or them". When I saw so many others having the same issue, I figured it was Steam's problem. However, I read other discussions where someone mentioned they can't publish, but the other person, such as a family member, is able to publish on their computer. So this means they're all on the same connection, or LAN, and it sounds to be specific to individual systems. If this is true, then perhaps a Steam update was issued, and it has an incompatibility that is flavor specific to the OS or configuration. I have a vague memory of an update to my Steam client occurring just before this problem started.

And, I even tried to create an outbound rule specific to Steam.exe in the firewall settings, and that didn't even work.

I contacted the valve support and they told me to turn off any anti virus I have, however I'm away from my desktop computer right now, and thus can't try to confirm.

Same problem. I just kept trying to publish it over and over and over until it actually did.

I had same problem, I restarted Portal and then tried again and it worked, but I dont think restart of portal was necessary. So just keep trying guys :) I think it depends on how many people are uploading to steam workshop.
