W7x64. All drivers are up to date. Tried to reinstall the entire game, disable anti-virus and firewall. Nothing helps.
The game worked properly about one year ago on the same system.

I tried this earlier but it didn't change anything for me. It seems there is a bug in Steam (DRM-part?) that causes the crash. As soon as you go online with the steam client Portal 2 crashes. Offline mode (which is single player only) works perfect!
i have an up to date graphic driver and god knows i did all i could think of in order to make the game not crash for either offline or online. the main issue i get though, is when i use the shortcut key to close the game, i have to go turn off or on the compatibility mode before i can play again. gonna see if i have to do the change before running Portal2 again.
EDIT: leaving the game normaly doesn't require a change in compatibility, currently in Windows 7 compatibility mode although its not required for offline play. online play works fine as well in either compatibility mode or not.
I haven't updated any drivers or anything like that. All my other Source games work just fine.
Edit: For some reason verifying cache files didn't work, but I got it working after I reinstalled the game.
1. Completely logout Steam.
2. Then start Steam as Administrator.
3. Check/fix cache.
