What you said about the robots, I thought of a scenario where GLaDOS misses insulting somebody so she resorts to insulting ATLAS and P-Body, but in case you don't want to play in single player you can play as one of the two robots within the facility.
I'm not really a Half-Life fan, considering I've never played it. But what if Wheatley and Space Core's lunar orbit is disturbed by a lunar rover that somehow detatched from the moons surface. Also, what if they were caught on a Headcrab container...
Wheatley and Space Core land along with the headcrab container and Wheatley is given the chance to "enslave" the headcrabs using his flashlight and piloting him to set out and find Chell (either for means of apology or revenge), leaving the Space Core to be picked up by any Xen-originating creature.
I'm thinking Portal 3 would not have Chell but instead have someone from the surface find Aperture and go from there.
