Portal 2 Stops Working
I'm trying to play Portal 2 on my computer, but it keeps failing. It used to work.
OS: Windows 8.1
Edition: Professional
Architecture: 32-bit
Game used to work on: Windows 8, Pro, 32-bit

I have verifed the integrity of the game cache.

Now, usually it stops working because it's missing files, but since you said you already verified, there is another way. Go to proerties, then set launch options, and then type -windowed
OR IT COULD BE -window. It's either one. Usually when you do that, and it runs in a window, it'll run. I've had this proble, before and I use Windows 8.1. Once you get in the game with window mode, make it full screen and full res. Usually works, glad to help! Or attempt to help...

Thanks for your reply. I set the game to windowed and re-verified the game cache and the game still stops working.. Oh, and just FYI, I can run the game and load a level, but it crashes while playing it.

Is it a specific level that won't play, or is it every level? If it's specific, then a map file must be missing and the Cache can't find it.

I've been testing with the beggining of The Cold Boot (usually crashes when the elevator starts). I just now tried The Itch and it crashed when GLaDOS said, "It's a paradox! There is no answer!".

Give me your computer Specs
Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro, 32-bit
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo
GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti
Nothing but the OS has changed since I last played Portal 2.
I can list more if that wasn't enough.

That's enough. And the OS isn't the problem. I can play it perfectly on 8.1. I don't nessicearly see a problem in your Specs. So, run the game, and pay attention to the Dev's Console to see if ANY errors show.

And I also noticed: it's not the point in the game when it crashes, it's just time. While I was looking on the dev console on The Cold Boot, Steam itself crashed.

Ahhh, I've heard that P2 has caused A LOT of Steam Errors. But have you tried running Steam in offline mode? Or is it NOT the netork crashing?
