im geting crashes before i can even do anything and im really upset as i was expecting more from asuch a good reviewed game.does anyone have any solutions? thnx

I'm having the same problem, already tried uninstalling, installing it again, checking the file's integrity. Each time I try to start up the game, it goes over the Valve intro, then the loading screen and automatically crashes to desktop.

seems like everyones having these problems atm im getting it with left 4 dead 2 aswell, tried verifying, uninstalling, reinstalling, updating drivers, changing compatability, deleting client registry.blob, making game exe admin and steam admin and nothing it just starts for half a second then closes i open task manager and it appears for half a second then just dissapears..

I think there is or was a problem with the steam servers, as i cant even sign in to steam anymore, so just give it time, they will fix it!

I have the same issue. I either crash on preparing to launch or right after the valve intro plays. From my understanding its an issue between windows 7 and direct X not installing correctly. If you don't have windows 7 then I'm at a complete loss. I've owned Portal 2 for awhile and have tried a lot of different methods to get it running but no success. Most forums I've read lead me to going into the common folder for the game file and installing the direct X drivers from the game folder. But I end up getting a warning that I don't have permission or something similar to update direct X. I've also tried going to the direct X updater website to install but that usually just gave me a message saying I have the most update version of direct X and didn't fix anything. Any ideas besides verifying the game cache or uninstalling and reinstalling would be greatly appreciated.

I was having an issue as well, I turned of my McAfee firewall (temporarily) and it installed and runs fine now.

I get the same, i get to the portal 2 screen and it freezes and closes, dunno what to do

After I got the game running, I turned McAfee firewall and Real time virus scan back on. The game runs fine now.

This worked for me: Steam Library > right click on portal 2 properties > local files > verify integrity of game cache then wait it and it should be fixed.

Turning off McAfee worked for me, but now it crashes every 15 minutes >.>
