Radeon HD 6670 issues
Several months ago, I used to be able to run Portal 2 just fine. A few months later, I'm getting a constant two frames per second no matter what setting the graphics are on (yes, even with everything on low and windowed at 800x600). Nothing changed hardware-wise between now and the last time I played it. I updated my drivers, problem still exists. Any ideas?

As it happens I'm on the same GPU and since the Linux beta was unleashed Portal 2 has played beautifully for me. My system only has 2GB of RAM and sports an elderly Athlon64 3700+ so all settings are on Low (yet fullscreen at 1280×1024), else the game runs out of memory and crashes.

When you updated your graphics driver could you have forgotten to install the 32-bit libraries? I don't how these things work on windows or mac, though, so this could be no help at all. Or, is there a beta build of Portal 2 in to which you could opt? Perhaps (although probably pretty unlikely) a bug could've been introduced in the latest stable build you're running.

Thanks for the reply, but the problem also existed just before I installed new drivers.

Ah, okay. Is it only Portal 2 that has this issue? I forgot to mention that I'm using Mesa's open source driver[mesa3d.org] here, so although it doesn't specifically seem to be a driver issue you wouldn't lose anything by giving it a try if possible. Sorry I can't be a great help. Just wanting to see a fellow 6670 user getting their games working.

Alright, I'll give it a try.

Bump, still having this issue.

What've you tried? Also, can you remember any (notable) software updates since Portal 2 last worked for you? Folk often recommend verifying game cache in an effort to resolve issues, so that could be worth a try.

Strange, I have the same card, use almost the highest settings, and I don't have any problem at all. :O

NOCTURNE, if you guys are on the same OS, you could maybe be a better help than me. Also, not meaning to hijack your thread, Birdscool, but what spec hardware are you on, N? I'm quite looking forward to playing Portal 2 on higher settings when I upgrade.

Update: Now I'm in the other part in the game, and the situation a bit changed. In the areas with the blue, orange/white liquids, the game lags. Its not unplayable, just a little annoying. But like I said the rest of the game/areas are absolutly fine, and I use almost the highest settings.

My system: winxp sp3, radeon hd 6670, 3,4 GB ram, intel core 2 due E6750 2,66 GHz (so my pc is not the best nowdays)

I'm planing to get a better processor instead of my current old one. After that the lag at those areas may dissapear too.

Cheers for this, NOCTURNE. The stuff I end up getting should surely be more powerful than your (and obviously my) current system – probably going for mid-range quad-core with 8 or 16GB RAM depending on budget – so this bodes really well for Portal 2 in higher quality. I don't see any lag in those areas on Low settings, as it happens. I do, however, get lag when the Linux Beta receives an update and Steam tries unsuccessfully to download it.

P.S. styde, do you want to delete your multiple posts?
