Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic

Been Playing for a while, still confused.
I can find no legitimate material that explains how orbs work when creating a custom wizard, and choosing Cosmos. I believe that by putting certain orbs into Life, Earth, etc. it allows you to used higher level spells of that school. Maybe 1 orb per level? I am unsure. However, since the highest spell level is 4, or so I believe, this would mean that you can access the highest level spells by putting 4 orbs into something, then having more leftover for other schools. That would make all other spell school choices other than cosmos irrelevant.

So my question is, how does it work?

You have it correct. 1 orb per level of spell. Always choose custom wizard and choose these yourself as many schools of magic only have spells you want at low levels so no need in taking more than 1 or 2 in them.

But beware : the best Summon can only be obtained if you choose to stick with only one Element. Also you cant learn all spells of one Element. If you Invest 4 orbs into Life you will get a lot of Life Spells but you only get random one's. No Angel (best summon) and with enough bad luck not the spell you wait all the time for.

So the set of spells you get from putting in orbs is random? That's weird...
