First try this.

Right click Jedi Outcast in your games library. Click properties. Then click the files tab, then click Verify Integrity of game cache. I think I had to do it a few times before it worked right for me.

If that doesn't fix it, try this.

You might have to go into the folder that contains the files and set them up to run in compatibility mode for your operating system. For example, Local Disk (C:), Program files (X86 if 64bit), Steam, steamapps, common, jedi outcast, GameData,

Then right click on either jk2mp or jk2sp (mp for multiplayer, sp for singleplayer), click properties, click the Compatibility tab, Click the box that says "Run This Program in compatibility mode for:" and choose your current operating system.

I am having the same problem and tried your suggestions but no joy, any other ideas?

It would seem that 15th July was a bad day for anyone with this game. I am having exactly the problem mentioned and no amount of tinkering with the settings checking integrity for game cache, making steam full administrator, changing compatibility mode for all types, deleting and re-installing, has had any effect. All my drivers are up to date, no other programs running in forground or background. I complained to steam several times but they can't be bothered to help, in fact I have only received one suggestion of any value and that was after 15 days of no reply to my original complaint. I have issued an ultimatum to steam and have asked for a refund of the game price that they were very quick to take from my bank account.
Anyone else still having problems getting this game to run? Has anyone found a solution that works in resolving this issue. HELP because no one else will.
