What a great Star Wars adventure! I originally got this game way back in 2011 but never bothered to finish it due to some silly mission I was stuck in - I'm glad that Steam saved my game files so I could finally get back around to it. And oh man, what have I been missing - this game is just amazingly fun.
On your travels as jedi academy student Jaden Korr you'll be under the tutelage of Kyle Katarn (the protagonist of the Jedi Knight series) and Luke Skywalker himself facing enemies such as the Imperial Remnants and the Disciples of Ragnos (evil Jedi with force powers). The storyline is pretty simplistic, but it has its moments including fighting a top a moving tram and escaping from a mutated Rancor while it breaks the entire level apart.
The game has a system where you can play the levels in any order which really helps with the pacing - apart from the few ridiculous "the ground is lava" and "defuse all the bombs hidden in the level" missions, they're all very enjoyable and have great level design. The villain is pretty generic and dull, but since the nature of the game is varied missions directed from the Jedi Academy it doesn't really need a strong plotline with interesting characters. Only little complaint was that the later levels have a lot of annoying Force Jump puzzles (even a conveyor platforming puzzle level, come on now).
The lightsaber combat makes the game - the actual first person shooter mechanics are okay at best, but the sheer fun factor of the game comes from slicing and dicing your enemies with your lightsaber, flipping around the map with awesome Force powers. You can force choke, shoot lightning out of your hands and flip across walls. You can customize your character and even change the color of your lightsabers. Around the halfway point of the game (as you ascend to the position of a Jedi Knight) you can choose a single lightsaber, dual lightsabers or a double lightsaber. I played through the game with dual lightsabers and it was really fantastic how each of the lightsaber styles have their own movesets and mechanics to use.
The multiplayer of the original is long dead but the modding community still has a few servers up - I recommend the "Movie Battles 2" mod for a great Star Wars experience that showcases the battles of the universe, and for people that like the original trilogy, you can duel Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader in the "Movie Duels 2" mod.
The game hasn't aged as much as I thought it had. There's a little labyrinthe level design in the missions, but otherwise it's a quality Star Wars adventure that won't leave you cold - interesting combat, timeless setting and just plain fun gameplay. Go get it!
