they install & work the exactly the same as the default version, the only difference is that it is going to the folder in programs>steam>steamapps>common>star wars republic commando

ye, but when i try to run the sandcrawler mod from the desktop it tells me: Failed to find Steam.

i dont see a download for the sandcrawler mod, so i am not sure what its files look like to help you. however, i wouldnt try launching from the desktop. i always play modded RC, but the files have manually been installed into the game (with backup somewhere else, obviously). you do that by putting (i assume sandcrawler mod has the same files) properties.u and cteffects.u in your properties folder, and the .utx file in your textures. then you simply play the game through steam and the mod will have overrided the game. to turn the mod off, you need to only switch out the .u files with the default versions. therefore, id send the sandcrawler mod to your desktop and just mess around with those files manually, then use steam. shortcuts, especially ones outside of the actual steam program, can be somewhat glitchy...on another note, the failed to find steam notice can sometimes be overridden by restarting steam.
