You have to use Recon scout intelligently, use terrain to your advantage and mix your units so they fit your strategy.
Dont rage! Learn! and you will very much enjoy it!
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<I'm gonna have to retort that this comment is coming from someone lacking in tactial skills.. and games like C&C & WC3 where all that is needed is knowing more Key shortcuts and be faster clicking the mouse to spam things and rush are ones that fit your skill set..
This game REQUIRES Thought, Planning, Tactics, Strategy, AND Patience..
ALSO most players just FAIL at Probing before making a push forward and lack proper Recon of an area before Pushing/Rushing into it.. and also lack the knowhow to counter and defend from being "scouted" Proper Recon coverage will allow your main force to respond to an enemy movement.. and If your "DECK" has a proper balance of units and you place them in a layed defense then countering an enemy push/rush is a simple matter...
In Closing:
A Good PvP battle lasts at least an hour and a great game takes over 2 hours.. and i'm betting you are one of those players that spam out all the wrong units... throw them away in quick meaningless deaths in failed rushes/attacks only to have no decent units left 30 minutes into battle and just surrenders and leaves to find another battle to repeat the same failed "tactics" never learning from the last battle fought... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
My Advice to you is to LEARN about your units be it Nato or Pact.. and Learn about the Units in the opposing force aswell because knowing what units are best against which and what units are their bane is VERY important...
Here is a LINK that will help you in picking the right units for your "deck" and what units to NOT pick...

also break up fodder units like the useless M113 into pairs or single and push with them ahead of your force if you plan to attack HeadOn unless your foe has his units target fire they will target closer units over far ones by default (Leopard 1's and early T-62's also make a good cheap Screening unit to have between costly and valuable Core Tanks)
And again FLANK... only the Abrams Tank has good side armor.. The T-80 has 8 to 10 front but only 4-5 on the side
the AI was purposly set to be hard by the devs. one of the devs said this: The AI has been given an intelligence update so it will retain its "teeth"
So the AI plays more like a person. not giving you breathing room allowing you to get better at the game.
Heres a thought. Coop. if you cant handle Moving/Atacking/Defending by your self. Get more people to split up the tasks
Im a complete noob at this game and i destroy the AI. Its nothing more than spreading units out and knowing that APCs shouldnt tango with T80's >.>

(well in the best wargames I played like Cannon Fodder, Balance of Power 1990, Close Combat and games that really describe the madness of war.. and how irritating it is)
So maybe you are right: "this game is irritating", or 'bad' in your words. There are no super units that kill everything in it's path, no instant upgrades and no Hades bomb that obliterates everything (but I'm still waiting for tactical nukes). I suck at RTS and I just finished the Able Archer campaign and I got through the really touch 1914 mission too where ou have to handle three fronts at once while being always at the brink of being overrun by you-never-know-what-wil come-out next.I finished the refinery missiom with a perfect airborne assault and then when I replayed it again suddenly there was a helicopter, this time!
personally I think the programmers of this game are sadists, but I don't think it's a bad game. It's challenging and really teaches you something; war isn't fun and lots of people die in it, no matter how good they are. They have to work together as a team and overcome the obstacle ahead, or just manage to survive.
Advice: read the specs on the equipment you use well and use the pro's well and remember the cons. This game is like chess and not speed checkers. It's about position and control but in this game it actually matters like in real battles.
Right?
