I'd just like to know if there is the ability for Mac players to play online -not LAN- with each other

Yes, Mac players can play along each other, same like Linux (beta testers) and Windows players can - Eugen announced that they want to implement cross playing soon (so you can play with PC players as well)

Thank you very much for your help, I searched the interwebs but it wasn't specific and i didn't want a friend to waste $35.
I play most weekday afternoons 3:30pm-5:30pm Eastern Australian Time, elo 1597

They promised a cross platform patch within the month and apologised for it not being availiable on release. I have been playing on both mac and PC and the mac players cant wait to get involved with the PC players!
