MORE Leagues !!!
It's cool there's Wargame Cup and 3v3 Team League, thanks.
I for one would REALLY like to see 1v1, 2v2, and 4v4 Leagues added, the same or similar to the 3v3 Team League.

Actually there were some attempts to establish such leagues, but they were pretty much ignored by the community (1v1, and maybe 2v2 - not that sure here :p) and for 4v4 there was the LeFight tournament a while ago ... but usually you even encounter in 3v3 enough lags to have an almost not enjoyable gameplay (4v4 is too often not playable in terms of a smooth and enjoyable game). Additionally, you need enough teams - it was pretty surprising how many different teams were participating in nodestinys 3v3 Team League as most of these teams never were seen in competitive scene before - on the other hand especially french clans ignored this event, and I don't think any clan provided more than 1 team here.
However, as such leagues are hosted by the community, noone knows what's going to happen ;)

Well, for promotion reason, I'm linking to following events:
Clash of the Clans[www.wargame-ee.com] (tournament) - not much activity as only the final game needs to be played; originally 18 participators - this last game is delayed by the absence of some LVA members - here you go for the Challonge bracket[challonge.com]

Wargame Team League[www.wargame-ee.com] (league) - currently in the qualification season, hence much more activity; 16 participating teams ... Challonge grid[challonge.com]

And of course, there's the official 1on1 tournament: The Wargame Cup ... don't think that more information is necessary here ^^

Good link to those events, thanks!!
Personally, I'm MOST interested in 2v2 or 1v1 league play. Tournament and league kinda feel like they have different connotations to me, but I guess they really don't.
Anyhow, preferably something with a shorter run-cycle so new players don't have to wait for a new league/tournament to begin. The current ones look like they take quite a while to finish, and once started new players can't get in to them anymore -- which makes sense.
Is there a way to organize a sort of 'on-going league' that WOULD allow for new teams to enter??
Also, the ranked game can be fun, but it DEFINITELY favors certain methods of play.

Ye, tournaments and leagues are a bit different - but it's always necessary to get enough players who have the time to play weekly ... or more often if you want to fasten the pace of such an event - and at least for the Wargame Cup, people are complaining about the short time.

`I don't think it's really possible to host a fair and on-going league, but I think I get what you want: A while ago, Sikke from PLF hosted an event, called "Championship of Fulda" which was meant to be very loose and open (it died due to inactivity unfortunatley). However, the idea was to have a champion (here of a special map and it was 3on3) who is challenged. Side-note: The challenged team was given the right to determine the settings.

Ok, back to the system, well, every team who wanted to get the championship simply "challenged" and then they were added to the challenger list. Within two weeks, the champion-match must have been played, means champion plays vs first of the challenger list - the looser of the match (if they wanted) were added at the very bottom of the challenger list again.
To make it bit more spicy, all challengers could challenge other challengers (oh, i love the word challenge :p) - the so challenged challenger could accept the challenge because the winner of such a match went one rank higher in the challenger list whereas the looser dropped by 1 (you were not able to challenge the first challenger, nor could the second challenger get to the highest position by winning a match)

I hope you get the point, anyway, you'll find a better explanatory by Sikke himself here:
